Which are the top GU16 teams in Mass and how do they stack up against the rest of the region/country?

I believe this is one of the few age groups that the Stars do not dominate. This spring will be crucial for these teams as it is the beginning of the recruiting circus for the vast majority of the players

Scorps rule this age group. Top team nationally. Then there are the rest. With all of the players that go through the Stars and MPS you think they would have better teams.

There is strong support from loyal ball washers for the Aztecs, truth is they just aren't all that and a bag of chips.

The Crusader team is tough, they don't give up many goals but to say they can't score would be an understatement.

NEFC (Not Even Fffn Close) Ditto on the player numbers and quality of teams, where is it.

Explosion team has actually exploded, the best have left and the rest well, they are the rest.

The top four teams in the age right now in MA are as follows:

Scorpions. Far and away number one and a top 10 team nationally. Three players already committed to good D1 programs (including 2 to BC) who are juniors. No one in the state near this level.

NEFC. The clear number two, but not doing as well as expected recently coming off the winter indoor season. Playing R1PL though so they should be really tough by State Cup, but still no competition for Scorpions.

Stars. Likely number 3, but nowhere near Scorpions and nowhere near the typicl Stars teams at this age. Not likely to get there either. Could pass the NEFC team, but could just as easily slip lower as well. Their competitive schedule helps them when competing in this state though.

MPS. Yes, MPS. Won the NEFC tournament surrprisingly, with an impressive tie against NEFC. Hard working team that is not very deep, but with a few special players that drive the team. Have come out of the winter season in pretty good form after upping their level of competition with a trip to Las Vegas and headed to PDA as well.No cahllange to the Scorpions though.

The rest include some capable teams as well. Probably not as deep an age group as the current U18 or U17 ages.

All four of these teams will be at PDA which is the first huge recruiting opportunity for these girls. LEt the fun begin!

Okay I can agree with scorpions being way beyond any team in this age group. You didnt really name the best teams though... I have seen the Aztec team play the players do a good job passing to feet and they have a good understanding of the game, expect big stuff from them at state cup.

Crusaders are all kick and run one of the biggest direct teams in the state, is that a bad thing? No, however when all the top teams in the state play to feet it just means they won't get far.

Nefc they are okay, they connect some good passes. They have very big players that can plow through other people. Overall an okay team.

Mps renegades are probably in my opinion 2nd best in the state from the teams I have seen play. They do a good job passing to feet and attack when they have a chance, very good team with big potential.

I havnt seen fc Napoli (I think that's what there called) play yet but they were in the state semi finals so they could be pretty respected as well.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Berkshire, overall they are average but get results. They are all kick and run and have very big girls on there team. They take excellent shots right outside the 18.

So how do you guys think the Scorpions and NEFC will do in Region 1? I think Scorpions are definelty going to wint it again, but what about NEFC. How do you think they match up with the other teams this year. Looks like East Meadow is off to a good start. and they both play East Meadow this weekend.

Will MPS get enough competition this spring to stay sharp for PDA and SC?

Yes they will have their hands full in NEP with NEFC,Stars,Bruno and SUSC, who are probably the second best team in the region.Plenty of competition for them .

I think your confusing with the 15's. By the way, the rest did very well at NEFC

After watching the two MA spring tournaments the second best team Under 16 is the U-15 Stars ECNL team.

Overall I can agree.. Scorpions are by far the best, skill wise next is renegades. You didn't mention stars who would be next based on skill.

The next spots are kind of up for debate, because nefc doesn't have the best players skill wise but they can connect a few passes then send it down the field. Aztec they do a very good job possessing and I have a feeling you will see large progressions from that team. Fc Napoli there okay I give them credit though because they are small club compared to the rest. Berkshire will always get some sort of result because they play very direct but they will never become state finalists or ever be in the state semis.

Agree with many posts, do not completely disagree with any, except for the Berkshire squad. They seem to be a strange experiment from what I've heard. But one of the most successful western mass teams in any age bracket. They score a ton of goals and seem to open it up back and forth, I'm not so sure its kick and run or just English style ball.

Yes I agree it is a very interesting age group. I don't know much about fc Napoli, Aztec, and Berkshire. I like analyzing things though so if anyone could tell me a little about the teams (style of play, good/ bad team, etc.)

Coaches aren't paid, players pay only $150/year, players are welcome to do other sport, etc.
