Personally, I think the whole "I" v. "we" is a tempest in a pot of tea. I've heard people use "we" in many contexts where those using it weren't "on the team." Examples: When I was in college, people always asked, "Did we win?" when referring to the school's teams. People often say it with respect to the Red Sox or other teams they root for. People who work for sports teams (for example selling tickets) will refer to whether "we" win even though they have very little to do with the team.

Parents are obviously not members of their children's teams. However, they are much closer to those teams than many others who use "we." Parents drive the team, arrange the logistics, feed the players, provide first aid to the injured, and pay the bills. They perform almost all the functions that owners of professional teams do. If the Celtics win tonight, Wyc Grousbeck will rightfully say "we won," and so will the Celtics' trainers, bus drivers, and clubhouse attendants. I think parents who do likewise should be given a pass.

Point taken (and thanks for the reasonable discussion vs the other lunatic), but I respectfully disagree that writing "we" about your kid's soccer team on this forum is similar to "our" team winning in college or the world series. It's just too close to be using "we" IMO. It's bad enough that we are all on here doing this but I guess for me, it just takes it too far and is really overinvolvement. I know lots of us do it, but just as many others try consciously never to use "we", in an effort to "maintain perspective." I just think it's healthier to keep use of that term in check. But we can agree to disagree.

How DARE anyone interject their personal beliefs on a discussion forum! What nerve!! And to do it so politely and in such a non-confrontational manner. Who does that person think he/she is, anyway?

Seems to me there have been more than one observation about the use of "we" in a couple of threads (including this one), by a couple of different posters, and it's probably split about down the middle as to whether you think it's a bad or good thing. So what? Everyone has an opinion. You are getting awfully defensive about it. And apparently you still don't (and never will) get that it isn't about grammar.

Anyway, if you want your grammar policed, it's not "you're [policing everyone's grammar is certainly.....]" as you used it, it's "your"..... I know, it's hard being illiterate. It's a good thing your soccer player is so tremendous; he/she is a shoe-in for a soccer scholarship so you won't have to worry about studying or grades or anything like that. Must have been how you got into Colgate, assuming you are the same poster -- what did they teach you there anyway? You're probably the same dunce that doesn't know that "too" = also (not to). Anytime you'd like more info about grammar and spelling, I am happy to help.
