    Re: MPS Tryouts

MPS U13, U14, U16 and U17 teams made semi-finals in SC. U13 and U14 made finals in SC. Stars and Scorpions are only teams that match that record. There are far more weak teams in MAPLE than Super Y. What would happen if Stars and Scoprs played every team in MAPLE as there are D1, D2 and Developmental. Oh and teams don't implode when they lose like MAPLE teams do each year.

Ottawa has played one game so far in this season's Super Y league and won that game. Expect them to be in the top 1/2 at least in each age group. They are no easy walk over.

In case you did not notice, The Canadian National team made the final in the Peace Cup in China (losing to the USA 1-0 on a goal in stoppage time) and the U20 USA team meets the Canadian U20 national team in the finals of the U20 World Cup. Canda is not the easy push over it once was.

And just think how nice it is that the MPS girls, and boys, are still playing soccer while MAPLE teams ended their season with the big SC losses (except those that earned a birth at Regionals).

That doesn't say much for Super Y now does it. Do the math.
So true. The competition is very split with only 2 good teams in every group.
Really no different than D1 Maple now is it. Scorps and Stars always at the top and everyone else lags behind.

      See...not really much different.

Guess it doesnt say much for Maple either.

        Scorpions parent here.

It doesnt say much you are right. D1 isnt providing enough competition so thats why many of the Scorpions and Stars teams are looking to leave and solely play Region 1 or Red Bull.

Teams like Crusaders, Pasa & Nova will become the new "powerhouses" of D1 so it won't be as competative.

WOW, you heard rumors that the league was reeling, but there are almost no recognizable clubs left in that league. Looks like the US Youth National League, Regional Premier Leagues, Red Bull, and DAP have gutted it.

How many years can this league stand up with no credibility as the 'top whatever %'?

just curious really, you used to see some very strong clubs involved in the other regions, that's just not the case anymore.

I heard the same actually. Not much else other than discussions are taking place.

Right now and in the immediate future, DAP (Boys) and Red Bull (Girls) http://www.redbullnl.com will dominate the national landscape. The Red Bull Legaue just expanded to to 32 teams (with a significant buy-in for the new teams). I suspect that the Stars are not going anywhere other than R1PL and Red Bull. To put them in the same category/grouping of the other 3 teams listed is ridiculous!

Why would this league be better than R1PL or even MAPLE?

Because it would pull the better clubs into 1 state-like league or something very close.

So why would MPS,Seacoast and Aztec's be in it? It looks like they want to be placed in the best league with out putting the time and effort in to build a consistant club resume of strong teams in each age group. Plus I also heard there would be no relegation from the league, so thats right up the Super Y tree.

sounds like a pretty small league

there's nor getting around the fact that the top teams need to travel outside of the Mass to get sufficient competition to compete at the next level. rearranging the existing teams still won't provide enough competition for these teams.

                            Re: MPS Tryouts

I've had kids play and experience both Super Y and Maple D1.

The top Super Y Clubs are equal to the Top Maple Clubs. Rarely are they equal to a Regional or National level team, but few are.

Relegation places a lot of pressure on players, parents and coaches, time and effort that could be much better spent training. One of our kids had bad luck, with a couple Maple teams imploding, so he had to switch Clubs. The yearly search for a better, "winning" team, especially at the younger years is a real distraction.

The travel with Super Y stinks, especially Blackwatch NY, Vermont or Ottawa.

A league consistently comprised of 8 to 10 mid to upper level Maple D1 teams would be very popular and well received. Seacoast and MPS fall into this category, providing nearly half the necessary teams to pull this league together.

The regional and national level teams would still need to travel much farther, but the vast majority of the serious soccer players can be much better served, close to home.

                              Good post!

Blackwatch NY is a bad trip but the Vermont/Ottawa is pretty exciting for the kids travelling up on a bus and spending an overnight. Other games are pretty local and the driving isnt that far off from some Maple games.

An alternative to Maple for Stars/Scorps with less travel and MPS so they dont have to do Sub R1 for SC qualification?
