Doesn't seem to be hurting the number of coaches there though... maybe cause they know ECNL is just a toy for the rich.

        Killing them?

        Showcase U17 teams:
        Bracket A - #10, 33, 38, 145
        Bracket B - Japanese team, #34, 44, 125
        Bracket C - #12, 35, 56, Canadian Team
        Bracket D - #17, 30, 92, 128

Plus the 8 USYSA National League teams

Sounds pretty darn healthy and pretty darn competitive to me.
A third of the top 100 teams in the country are in the tournament and as always only a few west coast teams are going to be there.

never mind, just another stars/scorps parent 1) justifying the ECNL expense and 2) feeling great about him/herself by putting down a group of teenage girls because 3) he/she always has to be the best and no one can compare. Seriously, does it make your adrenaline run faster to make snide comments about a team your kid isn't on?? What drives such comments?

As opposed to the comments by others bashing on the ECNL girls? If you want to bash back think about the hypocrisy of your post. I have no horse in this race since I have a son, but you can't bash a whole league and the parents for putting someone down when writing a post where you are putting someone down....

I am not the poster you responded to and I have never posted any criticism of the ECNL. However, I do agree that there is a long history of posts from Scorps/ Stars supporters crapping all over any tournament, league or other competition in which they are not involved. We have seen it with Maple, Sub-regional leagues, many of the less high profile tournaments and we are beginning to hear about how State Cup will soon be irrelevant.

So there are lots of out here who feel the exact same way as that poster with no particular axe to grind regarding ECNL.

Some folks have complained about the expense of ECNL (which is perhaps why that was used as an example of why someone might post something nasty) so I don't see how that's bashing. Some of us don't know anything about ECNL so why would we bash it? I too don't understand what causes someone to trash a local team of girls making it into the top bracket of a well-respected tournament by snidely posting that the tournament is a bust now because the "really top" teams are playing elsewhere. I just don't get it from a psychological standpoint even, why does someone feel the need to put down a bunch of girls playing soccer by belittling (sp?) their accomplishment?

I agree.... I just don't understand the bashing at all! I don't understand the putting down of the ECNL, just because it is expensive, nor do I understand the bashing of tournaments or teams that are not a part of the ECNL. There is a team and a league that is right for every player and every team. What is right for one, might not be a good fit for another. Commitment requirements are different (time wise, money wise, ability to still play another sport)... there are a lot of factors. Because of this it is NEVER right to judge another families decision to play in or out of something like the ECNL. If you want to argue the merits of a league or a tournament, do so without criticizing the families, girls or teams that are playing in them.... you do not know those families or kids and you do not know what made that the right choice for them... All of these girls and teams work hard, don't bash on the choices they have made... no matter which side of the fence you chose to be right for your family and your daughter.

What seems expensive to you is pocket change to others.

                          EXACTLY!

Soccer is still cheaper than keeping polo ponies though.

Don't know about that. Do you know how much it's going to cost to fly my jet to Disney?

Do you know how much it costs to ship a string of polo ponies to Florida in the winter and then hire an Argentinian to ride them? Never mind the stabling costs or the entry fees.

The A Bracket has an average ranking of 52 or so? That is a top flight bracket? Please!! Compare that to at least 10 of the top 25 teams being at ECNL events instead and the quality is proven to be lopsided.
