Class of 2014 Men's Soccer NCAA Berths

In order to be a bit more focused, I took the Class of 2014 signings from another thread and filtered the list to see which players are still in the "hunt" for DIII. Surprisingly (at least to me) with a couple of exceptions, most of these players see little playing time as freshman. Some of the schools like Stevens and Messiah are DIII powerhouses. It will be interesting to see if these players will remain with these teams, and if they do, will they be rewarded with significantly more PT. I also included offensive and GK stats as well as updated links for each player. I will apologize ahead of time for any errors that are there. They were not intentional.

Sorry meant to state that these stats are for DIII. If I get a chance I will try to dissect D1 and DII unless someone else feels like pulling it together.

While the selection is next Monday, the following are likely to be in:

          BC 2 players

          BU 1 player*

          Duke 1 player

          Loyola 1 player*

          Notre Dame 1 player

          * The player will likely start

            So it's set, and

BC, Duke, and Notre Dame are in. Only one kid, WD of Duke, will likely see the field.

BC and Duke are out. Only ND Remains in D1. In D3 we have Bowdoin and Messiah, with three kids involved.

Actually the only 2014 MA kid still left in the NCAA's is Weaner of Messiah, and he is subbing in every play off game. Messiah is in the semis. Congrats to him.

Not true, Bowdoin with two MA boys are in as well.

Question I have is, how much of an impact have the freshman made on these teams? A couple of the DIII teams were very heavy with freshman with one or two making the NCAA's for the first time. It will be interesting to see if these players stay with these teams and if their team's success continues. Other freshman who had continued into the postseason saw little playing time. This is tough for any player who used to be the big fish in the little pond. I think many players and parents have always assumed that DIII meant not competitive and these players may have wrongly thought they will be making direct impacts out of the gate. The college game regardless of Division is a much different game than many of them may have anticipated.

Looking at the broader picture- it's great to see MA players in the hunt; Dartmouth (5), Brown (3) Akron (1) Bowdoin (7) and Messiah (1).

Sorry, what I meant to say is the Messiah kid is the only one getting playing time.
