It's great that society has evolved to the point where there are now rules and laws that protect people, isn't it?

This is one of the problems with trying to have an intelligent debate on a website.

The subject I address in my post was regarding aspects of child development. The particulars were in regards to discipline and methods used today vs less than a generation ago.

To follow up with a response trying to use slavery in Americ'as past as an anology is totally unsound.

Society has always had rules and laws. You would think we have enough, but the lawyers in charge keep giving us more. We didn't need more rules and laws that existed in the past to raise children properly. During the past 30 years, the " experts" have come along with their advice, and more and more, it appears that the old standards of child raisng still have the best potential for success.

Those key factors were to instill three important traits in children.
Respect.
Responsibility.
Resourcefullness.

In this case, the Needham Girls showed a lack of respect for their school, to their team, and to the players that they mistreated.
The Needham girls lacked responsibility for their actions, and this was in fact enabled by some parents, and continues on this thread to be so.

Bottom line, children make mistakes. When they are confronted with the reality of their mistakes, they should learn from them. The pain and suffering of having to live through the proccess trains and educates the child, so that the chances of a repeat occurence are minimized. This is a natural process, and should not be tampered with.

Children must experience shame. Any parent that attempts to shield their children from this, will only provide a diservice to the child, and the community at large. The earlier children learn from their mistakes, the better for the child.

Pizzi's suspension of the girls from the game was fine and that should be the end of it. No further punishment is required. Unfair if the girls were also suspended from school.

Coach T's continued tenure should probably be examined on any number of issues. This isn't one of them.

Attorneys are going to be attorneys.

The judge did the right thing ~ 'get this nonsense out of my court'

The girls should have paid attention to the handbook - they have been punished and that should be the end of it.

The police and the DA should only be involved if responding to a complaint involving a crime.

Most of you (and me, too) should probably get a real life.

What of the coach? No news. Has he been terminated, put on pobation, no further action? Odd that the whole matter has been addressed with the kids, suspensions served and nothing about the coach? It's his team isn't it?

FYI - he is a contract employee and his contract ended when the season ended. There is nothing really to discuss until the decision is made for his next contract. The contents of that contract drives all of his obligations and the schools obligations. Coaches are not treated in the same manner as a teacher or administrator. You can't "fire" a contract worker as they are not an EMPLOYEE. Contracts can be terminated by either party with varying obligations depending on what is in the contract. This has been discussed in this thread numerous times. Why is this so hard to understand?

Guys, yesterday's news makes for good rabbit litter. Please try and keep up! The principle also said:

"...We know that children flourish in an atmosphere of positive reinforcement, firm consequences, and forgiveness. As a school community, NHS must espouse these qualities and in so doing embrace and support all members of the girls soccer program as part of the NHS family. The students and families involved in the situation have been through an incredible amount of public turmoil and emotional distress over the past week. The student-athletes have faced administrative consequences and public scrutiny and have worked with diligence and sincerity within their own ranks to re-establish bonds of trust and camaraderie."

So we've had consequences, how about a little positive reinforcement and forgiveness.
