This appears to be false. The parents of the suspended did not go to court. It was a parent of one of the hazed freshman, so what he was doing was not accepting an unjust punishment, not for just the kids directly involved, but for everyone else who was not involved and would have to watch the HS team go down 7-1 in the District game.

Should a HS team employ props like pies and dog leashes to be used selectivly on a few players, call it team building, call it freshmen initiation or whatever?

Should we assume that no physical harm was done so it's okay?

Think the coach knew what was going on and decided to hold back?
The press is not the primary problem, but considered how this discussion would have gone if the report looked like this. I am editing the first news story posted to this thread.

Needham — About a half a dozen members of the Needham High School girl soccer team were suspended early this week on allegations of hazing younger team members, according to reports by WBZ. The issue has been acknowledged by a school official.

The coach, Carl Tarabelli has also reportedly been placed on leave for not disclosing the events immediately. Athletic director Micah Hauben did not immediately respond to calls from the Needham Times seeking comment.

The hazing incidents allegedly included four students, who pulled underclassmen along the field in dog leashes.

The parents of the hazed freshman were expected to go to Norfolk Superior Court seeking an injunction on the suspensions so all team members could play in a game Tuesday evening.

zzzzzzzzzzzzz. Isn't this topic done yet? Rules were in place. Rules were broken. Repercussions ensued. Right or wrong, the rules were in place prior to the incident and they were ignored. Lawyer/team dad/ business partner/ ego man tried to be the hero by taking this to court because he perceived the punishment as being to harsh for the infraction. It didn't work out. Get over it. It's done. From all of this there is some good to come from it. Future athletes from Needham and from schools across the state ( and beyond) will understand that the rules do apply to them and there will be punishment if they are not followed. Anti-hazing rules will obviously be taken more seriously in the future

Once again, there is NO evidence of this. The only evidence is that a parent of one of the hazed freshman went to court. So it would seem that you are among those escalating the problem through misinformation.

"
Right now the answer is "NO". Sounds like they haven't actually been "suspended" or found "guilty" yet. Some sort of appeal is pending?

Suspending kids for 2 to 5 days???? You've got to be kidding. The most these kids deserve would be an after school detention.

What if the act of hazing was tarred and feather and tied naked to a flag pole? It's still just hazing; is after school detention appropriate for that as well? Should there be various levels of punishment for different forms of hazing? How about----NO HAZING period. Seems pretty simple

This is more than just a "parent" / coach relationship. Remember, the coach also has a daughter who plays on the team and was also suspended.

No I didn't neglect to mention. I mentioned that he was a lawyer and a friend of the coach in a post just prior to this one that you are responding to. But IMO that became immaterial when it became known his daughter was among the hazed and other parents were also quoted that the punishment was too severe for the nature of the incident.

I suspect this is what happened. Coach and parents are talking. "What can we do? This has been blown up beyond proportions and so unfair to the ENTIRE team." Dad who happens to be an attorney says, "I could try getting an injunction. I don't know if it will work, but I'm willing to give it a try."

What I want to know is who went to WBZ in the first place? I certainly would like to understand that person's motivation.

"That’s all the more reason why the parents should have cooperated with school officials, in a true community spirit, to obtain a full explanation and a just outcome. The pending playoff game wasn’t important enough to justify such an extreme reaction by so many adults, whose decisions in seeking an injunction served to teach their daughters less about truth and justice than about pride and petulance."

You might be surprised, but I already know of a similar event being planned EXACTLY for the purpose of mocking this one. Stay tuned.

You are a maroon. Probably one of those dopes that would suspend a little boy from school for bring his Leggo soldier with it's Leggo gun to school. Or the little boy with the plastic knife to spread peanutbutter on his crackers. After all the policy is NO WEAPONS at school. Or the girl who takes a tylenol because she has a headache, because all medicine must have a doctor's authorization and given out by the school nurse.

In the Oberles’ letter, the couple noted that the girls seemed to play better than ever in a game following the incident. They described the game as “a thing of beauty to watch.’’

Ends justify the means. The hazers played better while the victims watched from the bench??

It amazes me that degree of denial and whining going on about the punishment. It doesn't matter who went to BZ or why. What matters is that students were breaking the rules and got caught and were punished.

The "well it's been happening for years", or "when I went to school...", etc.. statements are a joke. C O N S E Q U E N C E S, let's all say it together C O N S E Q U E N C E S for your actions. Is it too bad - Yes. If it were my child, would I be upset and worried - yes. But guess what, you cannot change what happened or minimize it by trying to excuse it.
It seems to me that most of the whining comes form folks who believe that "it's only illegal if you get caught".
