Should a HS team employ props like pies and dog leashes to be used selectivly on a few players, call it team building, call it freshmen initiation or whatever?
Should we assume that no physical harm was done so it's okay?
Think the coach knew what was going on and decided to hold back?
Needham — About a half a dozen members of the Needham High School girl soccer team were suspended early this week on allegations of hazing younger team members, according to reports by WBZ. The issue has been acknowledged by a school official.
The coach, Carl Tarabelli has also reportedly been placed on leave for not disclosing the events immediately. Athletic director Micah Hauben did not immediately respond to calls from the Needham Times seeking comment.
The hazing incidents allegedly included four students, who pulled underclassmen along the field in dog leashes.
The parents of the hazed freshman were expected to go to Norfolk Superior Court seeking an injunction on the suspensions so all team members could play in a game Tuesday evening.

zzzzzzzzzzzzz. Isn't this topic done yet? Rules were in place. Rules were broken. Repercussions ensued. Right or wrong, the rules were in place prior to the incident and they were ignored. Lawyer/team dad/ business partner/ ego man tried to be the hero by taking this to court because he perceived the punishment as being to harsh for the infraction. It didn't work out. Get over it. It's done. From all of this there is some good to come from it. Future athletes from Needham and from schools across the state ( and beyond) will understand that the rules do apply to them and there will be punishment if they are not followed. Anti-hazing rules will obviously be taken more seriously in the future

Originally posted by Unregistered View PostYea, but the "parent" who went to court happens to be a personal friend and business partner with the coach (something you neglected to mention). This is more than just a "parent" / coach relationship. Remember, the coach also has a daughter who plays on the team and was also suspended.

I suspect this is what happened. Coach and parents are talking. "What can we do? This has been blown up beyond proportions and so unfair to the ENTIRE team." Dad who happens to be an attorney says, "I could try getting an injunction. I don't know if it will work, but I'm willing to give it a try."
What I want to know is who went to WBZ in the first place? I certainly would like to understand that person's motivation.

"That’s all the more reason why the parents should have cooperated with school officials, in a true community spirit, to obtain a full explanation and a just outcome. The pending playoff game wasn’t important enough to justify such an extreme reaction by so many adults, whose decisions in seeking an injunction served to teach their daughters less about truth and justice than about pride and petulance."

Seems pretty simple

In the Oberles’ letter, the couple noted that the girls seemed to play better than ever in a game following the incident. They described the game as “a thing of beauty to watch.’’
Ends justify the means. The hazers played better while the victims watched from the bench??

The "well it's been happening for years", or "when I went to school...", etc.. statements are a joke. C O N S E Q U E N C E S, let's all say it together C O N S E Q U E N C E S for your actions. Is it too bad - Yes. If it were my child, would I be upset and worried - yes. But guess what, you cannot change what happened or minimize it by trying to excuse it.
It seems to me that most of the whining comes form folks who believe that "it's only illegal if you get caught".
