Gutekanst made it clear that Coach Carl Tarabelli was not suspended, but was put on paid administrative leave by Pizzi for the duration of the season.
Tarabelli is referred to as a “walk-on coach” and is not a teacher at Needham High. He receives a stipend for his coaching services.
“I will say that [Tarabelli] has served the high school community extremely well for the last 10 years,” Gutekanst said.Comment

So the scuttlebutt on the soccer sideline today are that the incident occurred when it did, because it has been a tradition in Needham if a team qualifies for districts they do something like this. That would example 1.) why the hazing took place so late in the season. 2.) why the seniors did it without any thought to consequences. and 3.) why the coach seem to be looking the other way.
The principal's response was what it was because Massachusetts just passed a bullying law. All schools have reacted to the new law in one way or another. The principal may have looked the other way in the past, but the law now requires a school to act or potentially end up with the mess the South Hadley school system had on their hands for not acting.
Would seem to me damned if you do, damned if you don't.
I can certainly see why vigilante groups form after some of the stuff that is written in this forum over this incident. If up to some people, these kids would be tarred and feathered on the Needham town common while their "victims" sent away to a psychiatric ward for the mental harm down to them.Comment
