Word to the wise for HS Class of 2012, do your due diligence on the coach, make sure the guy who recruited you and told you what you wanted to hear has the same personality on the practice/playing field as he did when recruiting you and is not in the bait/switch mode which some are.

Or heard what you wanted to hear, which may not match what actually was said. Folks love to parcel out one phrase or sentence that sounds like what they wanted to hear to match their desires, and everything else said gets filtered out. They also tend to overinterpret someone just being polite and/or friendly as some kind of endorsement that was never there.

Agree. Do your homework. Does he really give frosh the opportunity for playing time? Does he often ask his players to change positions, recruited as a forward and put as a reserve outside back at the start of pre-season and never given a chance at forward? Do the reserves ever get a chance or does his starting 11 always stay the same? Ask the questions. Am I your #1 recruit?.....Better to find out before than find out a defferent reality next fall.

Let me make an additional suggestion. If you can watch some training sessions, do so. Some of these guys aren't even as good as my kids HS coach. You wonder how they got their jobs. We'll I know. Step 1 grad student/coach. Step 2 assistant. Step 3 lower tier school head coach. Step 4 where they are now. All experience based on trial and error, mostly error.
