Oh, you mean in contrast to the very slanted and misguided advice of other "anonymous" internet. Hilarious.

Thank You! & Please keep providing this valuable information! From another thread:
Northeastern a lower tier D1 program with a local coach who knows all the local players:
A recent example of 2 local kids who were New England Revolution DAP players:
        * One of the top players in the State to come out of Attleboro. Former Revolution Player Of The Year!!!! Cut
        * The BEST player to come out of Newton in the last 5 years and former New England Revolution DAP player. Cut during per- season!!!! Parent! READ THIS SEVERAL TIMES!!!! A highly recruited DAP player cut during pre-season of his freshman year!!!

NU has several former varsity players on their club team now. Wonder why?

Point is anything can happen - cut, injury, no PT, burnout.... Players need to keep that in mind when assessing the SCHOOL. If they can't see themselves attending the school in the absence of soccer they best look elsewhere. No one is saying to stop dreaming, just go in with eyes wide open. Imagine getting cut after your first year AND you dislike the school. then what?

Simple, transfer to another school. If a player is cut from a team and unhappy at the school, check out some of the schools that are ranked slightly lower in soccer. They might have also had some injuries, burnouts, etc. and are looking for a quality player. A player is never stuck at a school.

Always an option but it isn't always that easy from some students. Often times they're stuck due to finances (might not get nearly the same package and just can't afford the next option). Or the academics are a step below as well, so do you trade soccer for academics? Tough spot to be in.

How about if you are a local coach DON"T recruit local players that you have watched for years if YOU don't think they can play low level D1

I think there is a level of knowledge that many people are failing to attribute to these players. This is not the first team they have been on or tried out for. They are more than aware that they can be cut. I'm sure this isn't the first time they have had to battle through injury or for playing time. Struggle shows what you are made of and not everybody is supposed to win. Some fall by the wayside, that is life.

Have any other Rev's players ever been cut by a college team?

I think this parent from Newton should take a good look in the mirror. To call your son the best player out of Newton at any time is a farce and you are doing a disservice to your son. He wasn't a starter on the revs as a senior and he certainly wasn't being recruited by anyone. The older player you are referring to was relieved to be "cut". He didn't have the passion anymore. And he didn't loose his scholarship which says a lot for the NU program in general.
                        Please stop. It is embarrasssing.

Yes, I can think of 4 without even trying. Not all are in the class of 2011, but it does happen.

I agree. I don't believe he was "cut"...he just stopped wanting it.

OP here. What I hope is evident from my data is that 50% or more of D1 players are not rostered as they reach Junior/Senior year. Some parents are disgruntled locally about NU in 2012, yet on this very year two top 2011's were dumped by BC and also 2 top 2010"s likewise dumped. It happens a lot. I won't decide for parents how to play that. There is academic and social fit, money, and soccer to be considered at least and probably in that order. What my thread does is help you see the recent facts about the soccer part. After that it is your call.

Spot on and appreciate the threads....information is useful and the more information the better to make these critical college decisions. Thank you for pulling them together over the years.
