ODP Scouting?

My child had a recognizable ODP coach and administrator at their game this weekend, sitting with a clipboard, observing play, and writing notes.

Do State coaches attend games and scout at times other than ODP tryouts? If so, do they target specific individuals, games, clubs, or age groups? Do they ever attempt to convince talented players to join State sides outside of the summer tryout period?

I'm new to the soccer world and appreciate any experiences others can share.

And yes, I realize ODP is losing relevance, so no need to repeat this point.

Yes they do scout. Typically they were all over the SC round robin. They would ask for a roster and send a letter inviting players they liked to tryouts. My daughter has not received an invitation for a couple of years and she still makes it, so don't assume that the lack of letter is a negative. It may be that they already kn ow her if she is participating and aren't bothering with the letter.
