How many players showed up at the rising GU16 tryouts last night?
Or for that matter, the rising (and relegated) GU15 team tryouts?
Gotta wish those girls the best, after what they put up with.
I am sure we will see plenty of them at Stars tryouts tonight
Did plenty of Bolts and other present/former D1 U14 girls show up tonight? Where are the homeless players going these days?
Stars B team?
Will the Stars B team play in Division 1 or Division 2 next year? If Division 2, why should Bolts players switch? They still have a home.
There will be 3 u15 Stars teams next year and three u16 teams. For the 15s, United will play Premier League, Athletic will be Maple D1, Rovers will be Maple D2. For the 16s, United will play Premier League and RedBull, Rovers will play Premier League, and Athletic will play Maple D1. Tryouts tonight at Lancaster for all 6 teams. Coaches and team list all on the Stars website: http://www.starsofmassachusetts.org/tea ... club=girls
I hear that girls tryouts scheduled for tomorrow have been cancelled. is this because Bolts had enough to choose from the first day or because they have decided not to field teams at u15, 16, and 17?

The tryouts for 13-17 girls were last week on June 18 & 20. Two days. Lots of girls.

Go sling your crap in some other direction.
Are Bolts planning to field a GU17 team next year?

Considering there's no Girls U16 this year, probably not. Does that have a paralyzing impact on your life, or is this another insignificant excuse to attack the club?

Chill.
Poster claimed there were tryouts for "13-17 girls" suggesting they were planning to field a GU17 team.

I might be the source of this, as I copied the tryout times from http://www.fcgreaterboston.com into the tryouts thread - it does say that tryouts for "U13 & U14 & U15 & U16 & U17" girls were held June 18 and 20 (and canceled on Monday June 23)(U18 girls tryout was June 20 only. The website instructs any girls still interested in a tryout to contact the appropriate coach.
The 2008-2009 Coaching Staff page lists "Girls travel team staff:"
19 – Nicky Wood;
18 – Nicky Wood;
16 – Jessica Pfeifer & Kerry O'Malley;
15 – Tony Mohammed assistant Neil Cifuentes;
14 – Tim Wheaton;
13 – Dan Colwell assistant Melisa Colwell;
12 – Steve Pickman;
11 – Katie Shields & Elizabeth Gugliatti;
10 – Steve Pickman
so clearly it's ambiguous - my take is they are planning to, it's less clear they will be able to. If I were interested I'd contact Mohammed or Wood and ask. My son plays one of their teams and I can confirm that Pres. Wilett stated that they understand they need to invest more resources and effort on their girl's side, in order to win a girl's DAP spot season after next. Could be a good spot for somebody!
Wilett stated that they understand they need to invest more resources and effort on their girl's side
Willett says this every year, and the Bolts are a fine organization, but for every step forward the club takes a step back. Redmond developed a very strong team that won a D1 championship in GU 14, but then took it to the Stars as the GU 15 Rovers. Flessas developed a steadily improving team that finished third in D1, but then fell all the way to D2. In my opinion the club needs a strong-willed DOC who will get much more involved in all the girls' teams, not just the older ones. Perhaps Mohammed is that person. And although individual coaches are to be saluted for developing teams (on the Bolts they can seem like subcontractors), they should be held strictly to a two-year limit for coaching any given team. Only then can the Bolts begin to develop a pipeline of successful teams that won't be so dependent on a particular coach.

How is Willett responsible for Redmond leaving? That coach always wanted to coach at the Stars, he was always obsessed with them, and showed no loyalty to the Bolts. At some point a coach has to show some loyalty and be part of building a program, rather than take off for another club. It's not all on a club president or DOC.

Never said Willett was. But the club has to build a program that won't be hostage to the whims of a particular coach. To this end the new DOC must be far more involved with all the teams than the previous DOC was, and coaches shouldn't be allowed to coach teams forever. And since you brought it up, Willett evidently needs to step up his game too, since the buck stops with him.
