Nope, No need to save face. If I was a pioneer parent, I would be thrilled with how the MAPLE season went and all the critics they silenced by doing so well.

I don't think the Pioneers wanted a pat on the back from a pioneers parent at the end of the season. They wanted to be ahead of Western. 2010 season = failure

I am a parent of one of these "western ma teams", and I think the Pioneer/ Western battle is a joke-these teams have completely different styles. However, trying to get 36 incredible athletes from such a small area is difficult, hence the middle of the road standings for both. Before everyone suggests a merger, you need to know that the kids are playing for the team in which their families feel are the "best" choice, without driving 1 1/2 for practice, and there will never be a merger because the styles are so vastly different. Also, I would love my daughter to be so lucky to have the options that the kids in central ma have, in terms of coaching, training, fields, organizations, etc., we simply don't have the same options, so we choose the best of what we have.

I'm sorry I didn't post my comments earlier, as my predictions were dead on target:

The fall season finished with a bunch of 11 year old girls playing soccer. Despite the extraordinarily young age of the players involved and the irrelevance of the results, it did not stop a bunch of nuts slagging off opposing teams and criticizing the play of young girls.

They had the same number of points and only GD separated them. Essentially they were tied and had equally seems, no need to slice the pie so finely at U12, but if you must then YES they finished ahead of them, same number of points just had a 3 goal better GD. 3 goals over the course of an 8 game season makes them a much better team.

No problem, I knew it was important to WU and now realize why they had to run up the score yesterday at 9-1. I thought WU was above that, but I see that they are not, too bad. Good to get 38% of your season's goal in the last game. You win.

Do each of the top teams in this bracket have representation in the odp pool this year? The top players from our team are there, just checking to see if it is a balanced representation? I do realize that many (more than half?) of the girls in the 98 pool are playing U13.

Why would you say Western was more disappointing. They came up this year from the 2nd division. Pionners were there last year and had already played all these team. Western also played all the top teams at the start of the season and pioners at the end when you should be playing your best soccer. western plays a good brand of soccer based on passing and skill. pioneers, well that has been dicussed already. Pioneers continued to show what they are.

Western did come up from 2nd division, had 7 new players and will definitely come together even more for the Spring season.

Pioneers came in 3rd last season, now in 5th- sucks for them!

Enough of the debate about last season. If you look at the teams, Pioneers are better equipt to be the better team in the future. The Pioneers forwards are fast and strong, play great defense and have strong GK. This team only let up 7 goals. must be doing something right. the future will tell

Head to head was a draw, I think the teams were equally despite the completely different styles of play. My money is on Pioneers to be better as time goes on as they have more raw talent and better players at key positions. WU have better skilled players and more more depth, but only a size advantage right now, which will fade over time and already has started. I like the WU style better, but they will have to get MUCH better and quickly to keep pace. Pioneers just need incremental improvement in skill plus the speed they now have to get better.

According to the Pioneers website, looks like they have 2 ODP players. Not sure who they were, unless one was the blonde girl as noone stood out and they really are just a kick and run team. I don't know how many Western has. Not sure why you would say, "Pioneers are better equipt to be the better team in the future"- disagree! I think foot skills and passing are the way to play vs kicking and the aggressiveness.

I am just a Western Mass fan but after seeing both teams play a few times- the Western team looks like the team to stick with in the future...
