Although I feel that I have greater appreciation and insight, I would prefer my child to play in the first division, play against competitive clubs etc etc.
Ideally, after you have selected a few clubs to consider, you will investigate further and learn of the clubs reputation, development strategies, and how they treat the players...who are still children.
Regardless, you will NEVER get away from the W/L record....

Rediculous. My daughter plays on a team where they scored 6 goals in 20 minutes of play in U11 Maple. Coach said, " I like to win but not like this". Kids got the point and passed the remainder of the game. Final score 6-0. Good lessons to the kids about good sportsmanship and classy coach. Kids understand they could easily have made it 19-0, but why?

Second, and more to the point, you're wrong. The humiliation FOR THE PLAYERS is the rising goal differential.
I watched a BU15 team play keep away during a blow out once, and the game went from a very real risk of violence (every run for goal got uglier and uglier) to neutralized for the remaining 20 minutes of the game. Everyone came off the field cooled down and in one piece. If this was really the "humiliating" experience that you, on the sidelines, as an adult "fan", seem to perceive, then certainly the violence that was escalating among 14 year old boys during the trouncing would have gone throw the roof once the keep away began. It didn't. It calmed down.
Players are less humiliated by keep away than they are by being relentlessly scored on. As for the sidelines? Who cares. Parents who react to 10 year old soccer as if they were watching the NFL as probably just to weird for words anyway.

Possession is common practice done without goals. It's good for both teams. A overly dominant team is sending the message "OK - you're done, so let's practice for the remaining time". That, or shifting forwards to the back etc, is just reasonable sportmanship. No harm is done to either team by not continuing to increase the goal differential - really!.
