I see at least one ECNL club listed on the girls side. Are they doing both or would this be a second team from the club? Anyone know?
There are at least three teams (U16 Eclipse, U16 St. Louis Gallagher and U17 San Diego Surf) that would seem to be doing both. Perhaps it will be a second team, but the positioning does seem odd. Eclipse is a founding member and has been pretty influential through the early stages of the league, and had pre-qualified teams skip in 2009-2010, so they are the strangest inclusion.

Isn't this contrary to the philosophy of the ECNL? How can parents and players take these guys seriously when they don't practice what they preach?

Certainly if these teams do both it would be a problem, but in all three cases we are talking about large clubs with multiple teams and the possibility that a separate team will do each. A good example would be the U18 Stars ECNL and Stars Rovers. Two excellent teams and both with the same club. Were they a year younger and I would think that the Rovers might have opted for the NL - if they could get accepted. If (as one might expect) the club's "B" teams are plying in the NL, it would be an interesting sign about comparative quality. Say wahat you want, but the lack of almost any ECNL club participation and the decision to double the size of the U16 and 17 groups will significantly water down the quality of the NL. For example, no USYSA girls champions are playing in the NL. However, for those new teams that do play, it could provide a boost in their visability and guarantees to be in top groups at CASL, Disney and Vegas. Interesting to see what happens at CASL and Vegas - both of which have been traditionally run by ECNL clubs? This is a break-water year in girls club. Successes by the ECNL (coupled with any continuing struggles with the US Girls national teams) and maybe US Soccer throws some support towards the ECNL and a girls type DAP. Should be real interesting.

Such assumptions. Eclipse and Scott Gallagher and placing their A teams in the National League. Don't know about Surf. The Scott Gallagher team is actually threatening to leave SLSG if forced to play ECNL and may leave anyway.
US Soccer will not throw any support to the ECNL. The Federation has been courted for two years and have told ECNL to take a hike. ECNL does not have the resources to offer a DAP program. They also do not have the will. As long as they are parent funded they will do what they believe mommy and daddy want, which is more games and hardware, rather than one game a gay, fewer games/more practices.

??? Gallagher is not close to departing. Eclipse remains strongly committed to the ECNL and that single team is a 2d side much like the previously mentioned Rovers. Not sure about the Surf, but probably a similar situation. I'll agree that the Federation has shown no desire to do anything on the girls side, but continued under-performance by US Youth National Teams and that could change - and quickly. More impotantly the ECNL does only play a single game a day at their tournaments and unless you call a single champion too much hardware, then I think you have proven that you know very little.

Knows little? Considering my daughter plays on the SLSG U17 team that is in the National League, ECNL and MRL and we have been with Tony since before Red Bull, my guess is I know more than you about what is happening in St. Louis and the ECNL. What you also seem to fail to understand is the ECNL is a part of the whole culture. It is a marketing scheme used by Clubs to attract players and parents' money. The ECNL and National League play one game a day, but the teams play far more and none of the clubs show any sign of changing despite the stated goals of ECNL. The ECNL is not enforcing any of its stated DAP goals. Why? Because the parents would not stand for it and would leave. Parents want their "money's worth," especially if they are to travel. So the teams play more games now than they did before the ECNL.
The Federation will do nothing because they have no money. If the Junior National Teams do poorly the Federation will still have no money and still will not start or sanction a girls DAP.
You need to get out of your neighborhood, talk with people beyond Mass. and stop believing the PR plastered on web pages.
maybe you should take a stand and not have Mia play on a team in three leagues, especially if it means so many games. But then again the team was so completely mediocre in ECNL play last year who really cares? 11th place... please! Take your little pail and shovel and go to another beach - or in St. Louis another patch of dirt..
