these two teams are fine in a league where the other top teams are not playing. both stars and pda are mid-level teams in usys, but in a league where they (JD & MG) help put together they do pretty well. funny!

Stars have three players with NP experience, but I believe only one has any legitimate NT experience and I'm not sure that she has a start with the NT. I believe that PDA has two girls with NP experience, although I don't think either is currently in a NP. Both teams have a slew of D1 commits including some full scholarship level players. PDA is a great team and a deserving ECNL Champion. There was no fluke to their title, but frankly, the same would have been said had the Stars prevailed in PKs. Not sure that you could call them an over-acheiving unit and they certainly weren't underdogs heading into the weekend. Both teams have shown themselves to be a top 10 national level side during the past 18-24 months, and both have had plenty of success against teams from outside of R1. That is how they got to the ECNL final game. If you ask just about any coach from outside of R1 who the best three teams in R1, all would have the Stars and PDA on that short list. Both teams carry plenty of respect from opponents - especially in Regions 3 and 4. Its a far cry from the claims of "the East is Least" that went with attending tournaments just 3 or 4 years ago. For some reason PDA has found a way to match up extremely well with the Stars. Some of it is match-up of personnel, some of it tactical, some of it is style and some is just luck. But, what-ever it is, PDA accounts for more than 50% of the Stars total losses in the last two years. Right, that shows in the R1PL where the two teams have won 3 of the 4 titles at this age group. BTW, they were both finalists in last years Red Bull/ Pre ECNL League. Bethesda and Syosett have proven to also be two formidable teams in R1, but these are the top 4 - hands down and by all standards these four are in the top 10-15 in the nation. Mid level? Hardly. Stars and PDA are certainly two of the top 10 teams in the country in this age group. But neither could really be considered the national champion.
Next year, the ECNL will include more of the top clubs, and there will be a bigger difference. After the ECNL teams pull out of the US YS nationals, it's anybody's game though.Comment
