As a senior engineering student in college, I remember walking into math class a little early on the first day of the semester. I was a little surprised to see a couple of good looking coeds in the class and sat down - female engineering students were somewhat rare - no more than a handful and most were stingy with the cosmetic products if you know what I mean. As the class started to fill in and half the class was female, I figured out that my class was across the hall ...

That said, it is kind of funny that a coach with an accent will initially command more respect than one without but over the longer term its the skill of the coach that eventually matters.

time to get back on track on the issue, what could the local North Shore clubs due better that they are not doing now to keep this local talent on the North Shore.

Some say price, some coaching, some say club is to small. It is tough to judge. Could it be the people running the club the issue? or are people just reading this incorrectly

Aztec's is one of the most expensive clubs to play for, so its not price.

My kids have had 7 years in the Aztec system. We have found that at that the while the Aztecs are not perfect, they do have strong management who runs the club the right way.

The have the right intentions - a very good plan to follow though on those intentions - and process in place to allow a pretty consistent approach from team to team.

Our experience is that the leadership in this club is strong and does not have a big ego.

Those are just three examples. The idea that MAPLE is the only place that good soccer is being played in this state is a myth. Some MAPLE parents are adamant about this because acknowledging that good soccer is being played elsewhere diminishes their perceived value of their child's MAPLe experience. It sucks to pay $1,500 to get coached by a MAPLE Coach with a C or D license when for $85 the same coach can be had in town travel. With my own eyes I watched Danvers and Andover top U12 teams beat top MAPLE teams in tourneys.

I'll make the excuse now for the naysayers. Their best players weren't present!!!
This is just flat out wrong. Danvers would go up to NH and beat NH club teams, but not in the last 4 or 5 years. The best teams were loaded with Force, SUNS and Aztecs players. Those kids were products of Alvi Ibenez, Sammy Yawson, Norris Gibson, Doc Simpson and Mike Kersker. Not Danvers Youth Soccer.

The problem on the North SHore is more geography than anything. Nobody south of Woburn wants to travel north on rt 128 a couple of days a week for practice. Seacoast is very well established to the North, so all of the North Shore clubs are battling for the kids that live between Woburn and the New Hampshire border. There are just too many clubs, too much baggage, and too few really talented players to make this work.

The really serious players on the North Shore eventually migrate to the more competitive clubs (which are also very centrally located) to play at a higher level.

IMO, the Azrec/NESS merger will do nothing to change this.

Parents on the NS should not be fooled into thinking club is the only place developing better players. I think players are improving by playing soccer almost daily because of the popularity of the sport, and that is what is going on.
