    Movement?

Does anyone know if any of the larger clubs utilize a system where players move from B team to A team and vice versa other than in June? For example, let's say the goalkeeper on the A team gets injured and will be out for the reaminder of the season, if it's prior to any roster freeze deadline, would the club move the goalie from the B team to the A team? How about for a tournament?

A player can only move once within the club during the season.

There is a significant process paperwork associated with such a move.

Here is how I understand it: The single intra-club move is a MAPLE rule and so not applicable to other venues. So clubs, teams and players have more freedom for tournaments. Usually the player will appear as a "guest" on the official Mass Youth (USYSA) travel roster for tournaments. USClub may approach the issue differently as I believe their rostering rules are a little more relaxed than Mass Youth. When it comes to the State Cup, the rules are no different for intra-club or inter-club moves. Play a State Cup game for one team and you are ineligible for another. Once your SC Roster is frozen that team cannot add any players, whether they have played a previous SC game - or not. However, if a team's SC roster has not been frozen they can add eligible players at any point. The bottom line is simple. If you allow your roster to freeze with only one keeper, and that keeper is injured, you are stuck.

Well, they could recruit them off a MAPLE team in mid-season like they did to my keeper several years back. They skirted the rules by having a team parent do the dirty work and approach my player. I let my player move because it was a good opportunity for her.

I believe Scorpions just did this at U15.

The original question had to do with whether the larger clubs (i.e., those with more than one team at an age group) actually make these moves, not whether they could. So is this the club policy at say Scorps, Stars, Bolts, Aztecs, etc.?

Advantage of Super Y - yes players can move between A and B and rosters allow a larger roster and name 18 for any specific game from that larger roster.

MASC does not freeze rosters until just before the last regular season game. Teams involved in State Cup are held to State Cup rules.

Clubs with multiple teams in MASC generally do some player movement. The amount of such is usually dictated by coach and club philosophy.

By the way, someone please describe the High School (MIAA) rule on movement between Varsity and JV, or is that open subject to bona fide player rules, etc.?

I don' t think there are any MIAA limits on player movement between JV and V. I've seen players moved one way or the other for a single game. However, for the post season tournaments there is a roster freeze date, usually very near or jsut after the end of the regular season.

Only restriction is that they cannot play in more than two halves on the same day. In many cases you will have a player who is a top JV player that the Varsity will bring up either to provide depth or to get them some Varsity experience during lopsided games. I usually had 3 to 4 players that floated between my JV and Varsity squads.
