Following up on a thread I read somewhere else on this site...
Why exactly does Mass Youth Soccer need a "release" from Soccer-RI for a RI resident to play for a Massachusetts club?
This goes back to an earlier post on the RI website. Soccer-RI has a new rule that limits the number of releases to 5 it will grant to any one Massachusetts club team. Meaning: if 6 RI girls make the Mass FC U12 team, SRI will only grant 5 of those girls releases and the 6th is out of luck.
I doubt that the rule is enforceable in court any way. But as tryout season is over and there are a few RI-based clubs that are not SRI member clubs (i.e. NE Wave), this new rule is creating a lot of conversation.
The question has come up as to exactly why Mass Youth Soccer needs releases from SRI. If Mass Youth Soccer simply said "we no longer require releases from SRI for RI kids to play on Mass clubs, the issue would be moot.
Does anyone on this board know why Mass Youth Soccer requires releases in the first place? Is there a way around this rule?
