So Western implemented an age appropriate rule despite the fact that this u17 team has risen through all levels of maple to become a close knit, decent team. Regardless western went ahead with the rule and the u17 parents and players were more than displeased and vowed to remain together. This "merger" was a good way for RL to break ties with a program that has made rediculous decisions with this u17 team for years while offering the girls a way to stay together. Get a clue and stop the bashing. RL is an outstanding coach opens up many doors for his players with his ties to many people. Don't be a hater, you've obviously been burned by him.
Western United has a history of poorly serving their girl's teams. What would have been rising U-17 and U-16 once had division one Maple teams, badly coached and supervised by the club. Ryan Lavner has been the one shining star in an otherwise mediorce club on the girl's side. He tries to do right by his players. If Western had more coaches such as he they would be much more successful club.

Don't know about the Stars envy but perhaps you can be more specific about how many players stayed with Bolts and how many left.
They kept their premier league spot didn't they? so it had to be at least 50% that moved. It appeared to be all but 2 or 3.

Numbers don't lie and big chunks of teams don't up and move unless something at the prior club is making them unhappy. And they don't stay at the new club if it ends up being a mistake. The prior responder seems to have the inside scoop so maybe he/she could answer how many stayed and how many moved? This is indicative as well as how many stayed on the team the following year in Stars would indicate the effect of the friction generated. If two or three players stayed and there was no more friction for those that moved at Stars then it would seem to have been a good choice for everyone, no?

Lavner only cares about certain players, not the entire team. That's why players and parents do not like him because they do not trust him. The positive comments for him are only from the certain players and parents he caters to. No shining star, more like coal.

That WU u17 wasn't Lavners team it was his girlfriends and originally mergered from a fantastic coach LP at u15 if I remember. They haven't been together since developemental times as you implied. This is a temper tantrum and your leaving the sandbox in a huff.

Just like earlier said Lavner caters to "special" sometimes freeloading parents.

Did WU ask for everyone to pay up too?

Unethical coach and poor lesson to teach your daughters.

Spend all your time "together" because time is running out for both good soccer and coaching. No sorry time is UP.

            No merger!

That team is not a merger from LP's team. 3 of the 4 younger players now on this team and impact players were CUT from the "so-called" fantastic coach LP. The other joined when LP abruptly left the team and this young lady wanted a place to play. So what do you do when a player(s) are not good enough to make the age appropriate team but do make the upper level team and make a significant impact? Oh, move them down when a younger teams coach complains!! I see???

This is right on. Not only was the team formally coached by LP mismanaged by Western, so was the team right below it. There was also a team which would be the rising U-18's that moved en masse to another club, around U-14, as Western was attempting to oust its very successful and popular coach. This then led the way for the current rising U-18's to play. Ryan Lavner has been the one positve constant at that club. Like him or not, he did right by the majority of his players, and his teams were competitive and successful.

I'm interested in people's impressions of the Scorpions/ESA merger after the first 6 months. Is Scorpions "West" being run the same way as the rest of the Scorpions club? Does it feel like one club? Have the ESA families that have stayed found this to be good or bad?

Parent of player ( a mid Div 2 class player) that isn't happy on another club that may want to look into this for location benefits.

Hi there, parent of a scorpions player and we haven't noticed any inclusion of the "West" so far. I actually forgot about it until I saw your post. I am curiouse to see how the ESA families feel too.

New to Scorps West this year, drawn there by the Scorps history and the fact that ESA always played well against our old team. Lots of top talent has flowed through there over the years and I think they will now retain more talent now with the affliation. Heavy emphasis on conditioning, technique and tactics, less scrimmaging than where we came from. Coaches are very approachable, will move players around and take chances. They show how to do something instead of just saying do it. My daughter loves it so far and although she misses her old teammates, has fit in well. We did go to CFC and stayed with the rest of club, there have also been some roving instuctors come in from time to time.

Talk amongst the Scorp West (aka ESA) parents on the sideline is so far all is well. SW have not had much interaction with the rest of the club but things are running smoothly.

Few ESA girls moved to teams in pembrook, and the teams are still doing well for the most part. Thumbs up to FM and DP !!

Will stars west be able to field strong teams or are they just there to feed to strongest kids into existing scorpion teams? That's a long drive to Pembroke when there are quality clubs closer. Time wil tell but so far seems to working out
