Blackwatch fields summer teams that play in Super Y. Not great, not bad.

Cash cow though for the "alliance." No training or anything.

District Select can be an excellent summer league. Teams are formed by district 1-6. The coaching can be excellent. It is a good opportunity to play with a broad spectrum of players from different clubs and towns.

The cost is minimal, less then $150/player.

There are no standings in the "regular" season. The tournament the first weekend in August is at Citizen and the competition can be excellent.

Approached with the right attitude it can be a lot of fun. The players might even learn some new things and make new friends.

If you child is a mid-high D1 calibar or better, Super Y will give them some competitive games. Most teams are good, a few will be weak. Travel can be a bit nuts (Ottawa, update NY, VT)

If your child is a mid-lower D1 (and wants to be a bit of a stud, top 1/3 of team for the summer) or D2/lower then you should look at the District Select program sponsored by Ma Youth. A few games a week for 5 weeks, local travel inside 495 (other than Lancaster) and cheap costs.

In either case, training will be good to excellent but limited. Lets face it, with a 5 week/2 month schedule and 16-18 kids none of which will ever all show up for practices training will be limited by time and numbers.

              Great minds think alike.

If the coach approaches it correctly and realizes that DSP is for fun in the summer it is a blast. Players talents from all ranges including ODP, R1PL and MAPLE, MASC and some Town players. Again, with the right coach, the kids relax and have a great time !

Anyone know of a team a college freshman goalkeeper could play with this summer?

Check out Eastern Mass Women's Soccer league at www.emwsl.org. Lots of different levels and lots of teams.

Playoff time is the worst part of Districts. Too many games in one day, with overtimes. One summer we had 3 games, one with overtime and a final in ONE day.

Guess MYSA hasn't read the Best Practices document.

I don't think they let males play in the EMWSL.

Sounds like the original post is looking for somewhere to play. Add'l training may not be an issue. However, part of your point is valid. Original poster need to be clearer on what they are looking for. As far as "cash cow", isn't that what youth/club sports at this level has become anyway?

Thanks but this is for a male.
