stars has a very good team in this group. they are big, strong, and technical. they are all athletic.

explosion is a smaller team, they have a few good skillful players.

stars is the best team in MAPLE, they have done really well in regional tournaments recently. explosion have a good MAPLE team, but struggle outside of Massachusetts.

explosion looks like they pack it in against a team like Stars because stars has the ball for most of the game. It's less a choice by the other team and more of a product of the fact that the smaller explosion players start off chasing the ball and then get tired and just naturally sit in a bit more.

i doubt the explosion coach told his players to play 4-5-1 and not attack. I doubt explosion was playing for a tie.

when explosion plays other teams, yes they look better and have the ball more, but when they play a team like stars, yes they look worse and can't keep possession. i doubt they were off their game, they are simply not as strong or athletic, and not as technical.

You can only play as strong as your opponents let you, Stars impose the game on all teams, its just how you handle the style of play and how to coach against it. You can get lucky with a kick and chase game at this age but as stated before it won't last for long. The technical teams go as follows in order of ability. (Yes I am qualified to make this judgement and yes I've seen all the teams play over the last 6 weeks)

This isn't a slight on any of these teams its just either the coaching or club style of play

so vikings finish fourth in division, the following ahead of them:

You may be right on both your predictions of the Vikings finish and the way MAPLE seeds the teams.

I have no opinion (at least none I would state on this board) of how the teams will actually finish but my understanding of the seedings (and I admit, I may be wrong) is this:

Group A: 1, 7, 10, 16
Group B: 2, 8, 9, 15
Group C: 3, 5, 12, 14
Group D: 4, 6, 11, 13

Lets assume (and we all know this will not be the case) that the end of the season finishes EXACTLY as it is today.

The first 5 slots are for the 5-9 Blue teams:

1. Stars
2. Puma
3. Inter
4. Vipers
5. Eagles

The next 7 slots are for the top 7 green teams but place # 12 is determined by a playoff between Green # 7 and Green # 8. Lets assume that Green # 7 wins that.

6. SF Vikings
7. Pios
8. Granite
9. Berkshire
10. Bolts
11. Aztecs
12. Nor'Easter

The next 4 slots are determined by playdown games from 8 eligible teams: top 4 of orange, top 3 of red, top 1 of white. Lets assume that all the seeds/colors hold (not a safe assumption, I know, but I am not predicting) so that the top 4 orange teams go in.

We have:

# 13 is Blackwatch
# 14 RI Rays
# 15 Sachems
# 16 Scorpions

Group A: Stars, Pios, Bolts, Scorps # 2
Group B: Puma, Granite, Berkshire, Sachems
Group c: Inter, Eagles, Nor'Easter, Rays
Group D: Vipers, Vikings, Aztecs, Blackwatch

Maybe someone else with better info can tell us which interpretation/seeding is correct ?

Explosion will most liking lose to the stars tonight. They do stand a chance against Western United. However, they better be prepared for a very PHYSICAL and DIRTY game. Hopefully this ref will stop the nonsense before anyone gets hurt. The game against Fuller should be a good game. Equally matched team. Fuller will probally come out on top.

Explosion beat Fuller earlier this year in a Friendly...should be a good game, but I see the cookie crumbling for both these teams in the remaining games, but one of them should be in top 4. My bet is for Explosion (who earlier pointed out that they have plenty of ODP players, while Fuller does not)

How many ODP players does the Explosion U-12 team have?

Are you serious. Someone actually thinks blackwatch and the rays coming from lowly orange are both going to make it out of pool play by beating top greens and bottom of blue. Get real next you'll tell me a team from white is going all the way. Stars all the way. Let hoist the trophy.

If a team out of the top 4 in blue are to win the Irwin cup they need to win 6 games. The top 4 need to win 3, I wonder if anyone has won it who wasn't qualified to the quaters?
