Qualification for the Paul Irwin Cup (U12 Divisionalization Tournament) will be as follows:
The top 4 teams in the Blue Division are automatically in Division 1, and are byed through the round robin and quarterfinals of the tournament.
The remaining teams in the Blue Division will qualify for the tournament.
The top 6 teams in the Green Division will qualify for the tournament. The remaining teams will play a playdown game for a place.
The top 4 teams in the Orange Division will qualify.
The top 3 teams in the Red Division will qualify.
The top team in the White Division will qualify.
Qualifying teams from the Orange, Red & White divisions will probably have playdown games, depending upon how many total teams are in the Blue & Green Divisions.
Seeding for the tournament will be done by division, with qualifying Green teams in order of spring record first, Orange next and so on. If more than 12 teams qualify by this procedure, then some teams will have elimination playdown games prior to the start of the tournament. These will be self-scheduled with the higher seed being the home team. The sixteen tournament teams will be divided into four groups for round robin play.
The first weekend of the tournament will be round robin games and quarterfinals. The 4 quarterfinal winners will qualify for the remaining Division 1 spots.
The second weekend of the tournament the 4 Blue Division teams who have already qualified will join the 4 quarterfinal winners to play quarter-finals, semi-final and finals to determine the winner of the U12 Championship.
The 4 quarterfinalists who have been eliminated will play a round robin the second weekend of the tournament. The two top teams at the end of the round robin will qualify for the 9th & 10th Division 1 places in the fall league. The remaining 2 teams, and all the other teams who have played in the tournament will qualify for Division 2 in the fall.
Declaration forms for the tournament will be posted on the website in April[/b]

so does that mean if you finish in the top 4 of blue in the spring, you don't play the first weekend?

that's right!
But finishing top four is certainly no guarantee of succes. Stars finished fifth and had to play the first weekend, they ended up in the final with Scorpions.
Is the new system better than the old system? At least it's less complicated.
