    Different sorts of forwards

Does anyone else out there think there are several distinct sorts of forwards?

One type thinks a give and go is a "here take this and go as far as you can" into the corner or dribbling into two or three defenders and then lose the ball.

Another type is "Give me the ball and I'll touch it back and forth in front of an open net and then finally pass it to a teammate once they've got at least two defenders around them"

A third is "run, run, run but kick it over the end line rather than pass it to teammates anywhere near the box."

Even at a BC game I noticed one of their highly acclaimed forwards WOULD NOT PASS to teammates but preferred to dribble at defenders and dive in hopes of getting a call.

A forward that actually combines with teammates is an unusual thing. Is holding on to a ball too long a quality of a true forward?

People are obsessed with players who PASS THE BALL.

It's one of the biggest problems in US Soccer, particularly girls, to have players who run at defenders aggressively and get shots off, in the final third.

I'd wager the BC Girl, is at BC, because she does exactly that.

The victimization of an 8 year old girl as a ball hog, is cringeworthy. I love watching kids beating players in 1v1 situations.

Wow - who said anything about girls or 8 year olds?

Some kids can drible but never pass. Some kids can pass but can't drible. Very few are doing both pretty well. Most can't do anything well. Part of the fun of coaching is dealing with kids of all types.
