Why? Don't you think the Revs would have made sure that quality youth coaches would have been working with the kids?
By and large, the MA ODP coaching staff is weak. There's a couple of good coaches, but as a whole, it's not stellar.

And given that the story is that the Revs pulled the program due to lack of funding, why would good coaches sudden;y flock to a Revs managed ODP system?

One proposed plan was to incorporate the Mass ODP and surrounding state ODP players into a Revolution Academy team training in Foxboro. Basically, a super ODP New England regional team. This plan would have allowed the academy players to 1) stay with their current club soccer teams and 2) with their state ODP programs as well. It would have brought at least 6 national team players under the Revolution Academy umbrella. The deal fell apart when Kraft soccer pulled funding for the project. I don't think this plan would fly under current academy rules."

This is what the Revs should have done and it would have cost them very little. I'm not sure of the timing - but a system like this would have the ability to add a player like Sheanon Williams to your list and then sign him (if he lets you).

Imagine the best of the best ODP players in New England playing as the "junior Rev's." For a little scratch, they'd have the rights to these players after 2 years. Whether they made the Rev's first team roster, were traded or sold, it would have been a very cheap solution to the acedemy situation for the Rev's. That's a great return on a minimal investment.

We should hit Kraft where it hurts and just boycott the Revs.

Arsenal reveal plans for American academy
Last updated at 23:45pm on 8th February 2008

Arsenal have given themselves a head start in the search for new talent in North America after plans to found a centre of excellence were revealed.

Former Watford reserve team coach Gary Smith has been given the task of establishing the centre in Commerce City in the state of Colorado.

Smith will combine the role with his job as an assistant coach to head coach Fernando Clavijo at Major League Soccer outfit Colorado Rapids.

Smith will also develop the Arsenal Cup, a club tournament that will be open to American club teams from all over the United States and that will be hosted at the Rapids' Dick's Sporting Goods Park.
Good judgment comes from experience. Experience comes from bad judgment.
