Region 1 - why do it

I know it gets more exposure for the clubs, but why do region at u14 with so much else going on for the girls

Seems to be an expensive waste of time - you can play these teams in tournaments anyway and get competetive games within your state

    Thougths

R1PL is important for one's "pedigree". This comes into play as a team wishes to play on the national stage against the top teams in the country. Ultimately, it comes down to playing against the best and making it to the best showcase tournaments for U16 & U17 years.

Bottom Line: Unless you play at the highest levels at U14 and U15, it is very difficult to qualify for the better tournaments later.

Agree. I was a naysayer too but it turned out to be a positive for our player.

You can get into the big name tournaments, because the big name tournaments are expanding acceptance every year as they realize what a cash cow these tournaments can be for the hosting club. The issues is getting into the top flights which means getting the best fields and exposure to college coaches.

Similiar level competition is good for development purposes, although you still want to challenge your team against higher level teams at least a portion of your schedule. At U16 and U17; however, these tournaments aren't really about development. They are about exposure. See answer above.

Is the primary reason that R1PL increases your chances of getting into better showcases?

Because for those teams accepted, playing Bayside, GBFC, Granite, Rays, etc is a waste of time. You get better when you play equal or better competition, not when over 1/2 your schedule is a piece of cake

Whether it is premier or sub regional it is overall better competition than faced in MA other than the top two teams. Some of the teams in premier and sub regional are marginal and no better than MAPLE D2 or so, as state cup champions from other states get some preference and some very weak teams from VA, MD, PAW and NYW are accepted into premier as well due to geographic diversity. But, playing NYE and CT teams even in subregional is far superior to MAPLE D1 teams. Its about higher speed of play, physical play and effort to develop. Results in these leagues have some very good impact on rankings and do help in getting into higher level tournaments, but the bottom line is developing as players and a team.
Obviously Stars, Scorpions, MPS, NEFC and Aztecs believe Region 1 leagues are better for development and these are the top girls clubs in the state.

So that's the list of top girls clubs in the state. Wouldn't have thunk it. 1st 3 OK, but the others are not uniformly strong.

Name another club you would put in instead of these next two. Western? NEFC clearly has made huge strides and some very good teams. I cannot name another club that has any more consistency either.
