I think there is less pressure for them to prove something next year than there is for some other teams in the league, who really haven't fulfilled expectations for a while.

It will be a rebuilding year for them but I will bet they play to at least a .500 record and will be contending again soon after that. Like it or not, they have built the most successfull program over recent memory.
Meant NEPSAC rather than NESCAC in this post.

I think it is safe to say that it is too early to start talking 2010 boys ISL. There are many variables to what these schools' teams look like = who returns to school in the fall, who enrolls, who switches sports which definitely happens.

Rivers came on at the end of the year--they will be the suprise team. I think RL, Noble, St Marks, Middlesex and maybe st Sebs will round out the top of the league. I also agree that you can never count out BBN.
There were some excellent center backs that will be graduating and that could be an unknown for next year and throw everything up in the air for evaluating some of these teams.

BB&N- Nugents gone, thank god for the rest of the league. Sampson is apparently the next inline. I dont know a whole lot about him, but from what i Gather he's a solid player and won't cost the team much.
RL- Hrenchuk graduates in the spring, leaving a kid named Lempres. have literally nothing on him. all i know is hes going to be a senior next year apparently.
St Sebastians- Losing Gregg who I was never all that high on. Again the back is up a 13. Piersiak so I can only assume he's pretty talented to have made a pretty high caliber team last year as a freshman.

Other than those three though, the top half ofthe league are all returning their number ones.
It's a shame to see how everybody falls for the BBN trap. Although they were very talented individually, there team play was not that unbelievable, and they would fall apart at times. If you watched the BBN/Sebs matchup, you would have noticed that the second half was dominated by Sebs, and the Knights fell apart.

Which brings me to my next point. High school soccer relies mostly on getting the most out of a team, not the most out of individuals. Although Nugent was very talented, I don't feel you should be thanking God for his departure. He was arrogant, and he would get caught making stupid decisions. He also had the best defense in the league. I'd also like to point out that Nugent did not win in his matchup with either of these goalies, seeing as sebs tied bbn 1-1 and rl won 1-0. Not that I'm taking anything away from Nugent's talent, he is a terrific keeper and I'm sure he'll do fine at Lehigh, but the goalie position is a leadership position. Both Hrenchuk and Gregg were better leaders on the field than Nugent. As far as skills go, Nugent was clearly the best, but he seemed to lack the intangibles that Gregg and Hrenchuk possessed.

As far as I am concerned, Hrenchuk and Gregg might be more difficult to replace because we don't know what we're getting after them. Sampson is a damn good goalie who might make you forget all about Nugent by his senior year.

What exactly is the "BBN trap?" Are you really taking exception to the fact that they have been the team to beat in the ISL for years running now?

Wow. The post until now have generally been very positive. I don't think I have seen a particular player (at least on the boys side) bashed liked this on this forum. What is your agenda? St. Sebs fan? If so, you know your team did very well this year and I think many on the board have pointed that out. Did well to tie BBN early in the season too. But seasons aren't made in one game and St. Sebs finished 10 point behind BBN in the standings. Given that, this sounds like an awfully large pile of sour grapes.

P.S. I would also like to point out that the St. Sebs goalie didn't win his match up with nine other goalies this year (3 losses, six ties). What conclusions should we make about that goalie from that? NONE! Just like you shouldn't make any conclusions about other players from the score of one game. Soccer is a team sport anyway.

Maybe this has something to do with the sour grapes:

                St. Sebs finishes:

                2009 6th
                2008 11th
                2007 9th
                2006 11th
                2005 12th
                2004 13th
                2003 15th
                2002 15th

                BBN finishes:

                2009 1st
                2008 6th
                2007 1st
                2006 5th
                2005 9th
                2004 1st (tie with Brooks)
                2003 3rd (tie with Nobles)
                2002 7th

Nobody said anything about bashing. No doubt about it: Nugent is the isls top goalie. Nothing is being taken away from his skills, you're just giving no credit where credit is due. How about how Hrunchuk helping lead a team (yes, there was Leon and Adrian) to 2nd place that finished in the bottom of the league last year.

NEWS FLASH: BBN WON THE ISL 2009 SEASON. Get over it already. THis thread isn't talking about the upcoming 2010 season, it's about sore losers from the 2009 season bashing the 2009 players from the WINNING team and whining about giving credit where credit is due.

Thanks for the news flash. Here I am two days before Christmas, still wondering whatever happened to the ISL soccer season that ended in the fall. Thank god I have you to keep me updated.

While the rest of us hope to keep this thread mature, I think Nobles is going to make a serious jump in the standings next year. The return of Ollie and Hession should boost them into the top 5 teams in the league. I feel that BBN and RL should drop a bit in the standings next year, with the loss of key seniors, and that Sebs might once again falter into irrelevance with the loss of almost all of its backfield. Don't be shocked to see Belhill and Rivers flirting with the top of the standings next year, and I feel that Brooks should be a top 4 team in the league, even with the loss of Vozella. If Thayer can hold on without Grady, they should once again be good.

tommy allen is the best player to date in the isl, i wouldnt be surprised if he was the top scorer next year. he plays defense but i fakin' know that he'll go d1..the future of soccer is allen. ive watched him since he was three dominated the sub-varsity levels. the only player i have seen of his caliber is charlie davies and charlie rugg. i'm warning all the other teams to watch out for #7 next year. good luck next year bb&n but you'll get roasted by this beast.

Although that was quite the immature post, I have seen this kid play and I can confirm his talents. Allen will move up to striker for St. Sebs next year and make an impact on the teams ability to score. I feel you exaggerated by comparing him to Rugg and Davies, but he brings a level of confidence similar to those men. I look for big things in the future for Allen.
