Actually none of top teams from MD and VA attended NEWSS (and very few from PA) so clearly not "all of the top teams in the region" were at NEWSS.

The intent of the original post was to encourage the MA clubs to support local tournaments whenever possible. If all top MA clubs (Stars, Scorps, MPS, NEFC, Western, Aztecs, etc.) were to play in a local tournament, I'm sure some of the top clubs from surrounding NE states (CFC, Soccer Plus, Seacoast, RI Rays, Blackwatch) would also make that choice and you could have a very high quality event (with or without the NY/ NJ teams).

It would also seem that Thanksgiving weekend is a time that many would prefer to not have to travel if there were a good local option, particularly with so many other high level tournaments at this time of year (CASL/Disney/ Bethesda).

      Thanks, MPS

I am not affiliated with MPS.

But I have to say very well done. A tournament like this provides a great way for coaches and players to connect. Especially for U18 players who want to contribute to a good collegiate program but are late bloomers. Excellent refs too.

I bet a lot of coaches and players appreciated not having to travel 200 miles to recruit. Besides, this early in the season many rosters are just getting re-acquainted. Why drive all that way to watch the ball leave the pitch as often as stay on it? (For some teams anyway)

Can MPS and/or other clubs host one day indoor "tournaments" during winter for U18/U17 players? An event like that would make it much easier for coaches and players to get to know each other.

One note: A girl got hurt Sunday In Lexington. There didn't seem to be any immediate, professional medical attention available. Perhaps having on-site medical personnel would make this well planned, generally positive tournament even better.

Not having to pay for travel expenses or traveling the mass pike over the busy holiday weekend was great! Having the college coaches that were contacted see my child play was priceless : )

Expansion is certainly possible for this tourney in the future with access to other turf fields in the area. From one family that has done the horrible NEWSS ride home on Sunday night in the past, this was a welcome treat for all of us to be local and still get some good competition. Local has its benefits: just ask the guy down the street at the gas station/Dunkin Donuts!

            But wait a minute -

It shouldn't be about what colleges your kid is interested in and has contacted...it must be about attending the most prestigious showcases even if the colleges of your choice don't attend! ;)

Travel is a hassle, no question. However, do you really want to play the same teams that you will play in the spring? At least NEWSS offered some different competition no matter what bracket you were in.

Looks like Aztecs 17s may have the edge on NEFC for the #4 spot in the age group in MA. I don't know where the MPS team would come and it was surprising they were not in a bracket with one of these two teams.

How can these coaches be at NEWSS and MPS Tourney at the same time?

Isnt the goal of a showcase to "show" the players and thus, bracketing really shouldnt have anything to do with anything unless the disparity in the teams is glaring?

I heard NEWWS pays coaches to say they are confirmed and then look the other way when they dont show.

How would you like to be a GK for a team that is blowing out the competition? You might not get to touch the ball.

So, the coaches said they were going to NEWSS and then went to the MPS tournament? The nerve!

The coaches/assistant coaches can be at more than one tournament scouting players.
