Let's put it this way, if your kid was independently wealthy and still found a way to use his brainpower and be fulfilled outside of soccer, BUT had the opportunity to continue playing soccer in the MLS (but not outside of the country), loved soccer, and wanted to play, you would advise him against it because it's bad soccer.

Some veteran starters (Dempsey, Parkhurst, Dorman) departed for Europe, another (Noonan) became too expensive, yet another (Twellman) has been sidelined because of a concussion, still another (Ralston) is out for the year. Noonan also left for Europe, but didn't last there long. He came back to the MLS to play for Columbus last year and Colorado this year. Even though he seemed injured a lot, Revs ought to see if they can get him back.

Revs also lost a number of other players in the expansion draft. Crissman, Reilly, and Smith come to mind. They weren't the players Dempsey, Parkhurst and Twellman were, but seem to fit the Revs system.

The problem with the Revs is the stupid players (not US born players by the way) who don't know how to read the field or their teammates and don't know what possession soccer means. Some don't know they even have teammates. Watch the difference between the Galaxy (at least in the first half this weekend) and the Revs, who sometimes string so few passes together it reminds me of my daughter's high school team.

That being said, you posters who are so haughty you think the MLS is just SO beneath you and your kids crack me up. As someone said on another thread, you have to be kidding me, like you wouldn't be proud as a peacock if your son was picked to play on an MLS team? No one argues that it's anything like Europe but seriously, who anywhere on this forum has the pedigree to voice an opinion that means anything by criticizing a league which is, for now anyway, the only thing close to professional soccer in this country?

If you don't want to watch because it's so painful for you, then don't watch. But don't be telling us all that it's so awful you would not want your son to have the opportunity to play there.

I tried to watch a MLS game this year, since Scary Movie was on another channel I decided to watch that instead.

If my kid were good enough to be selected by an MLS team, I would seriously suggest he go to Europe and try to play in a B league.

As a side note, the few games I have seen in the USL league are better than what I have seen in the MLS. Mind you I have not watched either since last year.

If he were that wealthy, I would advise him to get his parents a "cheap" place in southern CA near the beach.

Then I would tell him to do whatever he loved, remind him that he has a European passport and would be better off in a European B league. But if he chose to play in the MLS, I would try my best to watch him on TV if I knew that he was going to be on the pitch. I might even pay on occassion to watch him live if playing locally.

I agree, I've been following the Revs for years (I wrote the post about the dumb players now on the squad) -- the newer players just don't get it like these core guys.

On a semi-related note, Twellman is nursing his concussion/neck issues by being selected as Cosmo's Massachusetts Bachelor of the Year. So at least he is keeping busy during recovery.

A good number of people #itch and moan about the fact that MLS soccer is not watchable. I watch a lot of premier soccer on fox, and love the quality. I also watch a number of MLS games. Soccer is about entertainment, so for me, if i watch a MLS game that is well played with attractive soccer i enjoy it for what it is. When you watch your fav TV show you know that its not the remake of Gone With the wind but you enjoy it for what it is. For a country where most folks up to a few years ago couldn't name five European soccer teams we seem to have acquired more than a number of soccer snobs! Does MLS have a ways to go? of course but the league unlike our own franchise is improving.

Steve Bruce a manager in the EPL got himself on a bit of a sticky wicket over the weekend by commenting, with all the play acting and diving pretty soon, the a game will be only played by Pansies!

MLS is having to counter the loss by bringing in more foreign players, either those in the waining years of their careers, the few undiscovered youngsters or players who have been passed on by higher level leagues. There seems less interest in filling the void with American players.

X2 it's a huge difference. Many that don't normally watch Euro soccer will tune into the World Cup. After that, MLS is like seeing a slow motion game.

I like Blanco. He must have been some player in his youth, because as an old, fat guy he's pretty darn good.

The funny thing is athletically they are just as fast, but the game doesn't flow because their skill level is so much lower and as a result the game is constantly being stopped and restarted.
