Bo Lat has taken the very top Boston students and put them in a school. Is it a surprise that their athletic teams are often poorly competitive?
Ninety percent of most teams would not be eligible.

Some very valid points, but even given all that, the schools record is and has been dismal. Why doesnt the school petition to have there athletic teams put in a league where they can be at least somewhat competitive? I know school size is a factor but given the school record for many years now wouldn't they have a strong case.

Dual County League scoring champ St. Martin (12 goals, 15 assists, 27 points) netted a goal and added an assist to power WA to an exciting 2-1 victory over MVC 1 champ Central Catholic during a non-league showdown. In a 2-0 regular season finale win over Waltham St. Martin, bound for Georgetown University, notched the game-winner and senior keeper Whitcomb made 6 saves for her 6th shutout.

Newton North over Newton South (Daily News Tribune)

Newton South's Celia Kaufer's goal from Martha Schnee gave the Lions a 1-0 lead early, but Newton North rallied for three unanswered goals in a non-league season finale for both teams.

Lauren Smith, Amalie Brown and Sarah Perlo scored for the Tigers, who ended a tough season on a very bright note, with the 3-1 victory, after they were knocked from the state tourney in the season finale against the Lions last year.

``I give a lot of credit to North,'' said South coach Doug McCarthy. ``They had to sit and wait a whole year since we beat them last year and you could tell they were highly motivated today. They played well.''

Good for LS. I think that's their best record in many years. Second in DCL large to AB. I think they can make it a few rounds in the tournament but are probably not strong enough to take on AB or Winchester. Still, a successful season.

One must give Coach Carullo a lot of the credit. It was a challenging year with injuries to key players and she was able to adjust and pull off a great season. I would not underestimate them in the tournament. This is probably her last season so it will be nice to see them go out strong.

WA played two non-league games against opponents that they beat. Thus, although they finished behind LS in the DCL they will be seeded higher in the playoffs? Good strategic move by the WA coach.

Even if L-S had scheduled and won 2 additional non-league matches, they would still be below WA in win %. It would have avoided the coin flip scenario however for the 6th seed.

Technically LS played 6 non-league games and Westford played 8, since the DCL does not consider games against the Small Division in your League record. The only time a second place finish means anything, is if it is your means of qualifying for the tournament. That was not the case for either of these teams. Choices about non-league opponents are tricky. It isn't always easy to encourage other good teams to play you. In any regard, the Non-League match against Central Catholic represented an excellent test and an opponent that is much better than most anything in the DCL. So it is pretty hard to say that WA scheduled a couple of patsies - although it turned out that Chelmsford wasn't much.
