Thats exactly what I am saying. Look, most age groups have only 2 good teams anyway with one being typically better than the other. So by winning State Cup, all you are really saying is that you beat one other good team that in most instances you should have beaten anyways. Still parents hop on here and beat their chests like that is some kind of great acheivement. Just shut up and write another check already!

You're disappointing a lot of glory hunting parents of U12's who think that state cups are the bees knees.

The problem is for most clubs's teams there are fall and spring season and maybe a couple of local tournaments besides state cup, so state cup is the culmination of the teams' season and what they work to "win." There's only Stars, Scorpions, MPS Renegades and a scattered number of ages at NEFC and Aztecs and also the Bolts (boys side only) that are going to tournaments year-round, playing regionally and playing/competing in the summer as well. Therefore state cup is "the end al be all" for the super majority of parents in the state, along with the bragging rights and ego fulfillment for the big successful club parents as well.

Your posts are correct - state cup is just another tournament in reality. Yes it leads to Regionals and Nationals in USYSA, but its one tournament. The top 3-4 teams in the state at U15 and above are going to 5 showcase events or perhaps more, and they are regional or national in scope. The rest are still going local to a few tournaments at U15 and above. That's a clear tier one and clear tier two situation, but younger parents just don't have enough knowledge to realize it or interest in researching it because they want to believe the story line they are given by the club they joined.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with having a child play on a tier two (or even a tier three or lower team/club) as kids will find their appropriate level of play eventually, but realize it and learn something along the way. And please stop thinking the season ending state cup tournament is the end all be all for everyone!

Only one MA team made it out of regionals, and then they lost too. Doesn't mean everybody had a bad experience, or that it wasn't worth doing.

This State Cup issue is only on the girls side. The boys side has been great competition the last 2 years. NO CLUB has won more then one age group and there have been plenty of upsets.

It always strikes me that while the majority of kids in the state playing competitive soccer are not on the top 3 or 4 teams, there is some strange psychology going on saying only the top teams matter. Not true at any age.

Totally agree with this one. Thought the original post was some whiner who had never made it to SC and therefore was sour grapes about the whole thing. Actually was probably a girls team parent who was sick of losing to Stars and Scorps and bored with the hype of SC.

On the boys side, SC is no slam dunk for anyone and winning it is hugely important to a team. Represents a huge accomplishment to have made it past all the tough teams in the state, and gives them a real shot at R1.

If the MA SC was meaningless, then our SC winners would never have gone on to win R1 and then Nationals. Which they have. There are 50 states out there. Our state is hanging in there nicely, and our SC has some very tough competition.

I don't think I will never see any of your kids on TV when I watch EPL games in the future. My child has been on Mass State Cup winners and has enjoyed every second. Have you ever seen the joy in kids faces when they leave Acton Indoor with the u8 winter league trophy in hand ! I know some kids who was cut from a team that was in the National Club Championships a couple of years ago. The joy is looooooooooooooooong gone. Life is short my friend.

I agree. My kid won the U8 trophy at Forekicks and U9 at The Hab. I thought his face was better winning the Forekicks one because they had better video games there.
