Find a new cliche. NASA is pretty much dead. ERocket science is a dying field. Brain Surgeon requires as much manual dexterity as intelligence, so that one isn't really relevant either. Perhaps what you really mean to compare it to is "Unregistered Massachgusetts Soccer Forum Poster Bully", because we all know from reading these posts that no one is smarter than the parent of a U14 soccer player.

Those other juniors weren't willing to step up and make the sacrifice necessary to play at the HIGH D1 level at which UMASS now finds itself competing.
Final 4 two years ago, NCAA 1st round last year.......to be fair, when they came to UMASS they didn't realize how much the intensity would ramp of because of the success of the program.

              Could you explain the difference?

Most colleges have off-season training handed out (running, agility, weightlifting)

Then a test when you return for fall semester

                Here's an example test -

                run 1 mile sub 5:30 - minute rest - run 1/2mi sub 2:45 - minute rest - run 400 sub 1:15 - minute rest - run 200 sub 35sec - minute rest - run 100 sub 15sec

1/20 good high school soccer players could accomplish - but in college you need to show up day 1 that fit or else, AMF

I guess thats why only 1 in 20 end up playing college soccer. it makes sense and sounds tough.

several of those other juniors were starters for their previous 3 years - i think they were able to hack the fitness - truth is, seems a cyclical pattern with umass. fitness appears to be over-emphasized there and probably played a role -but there are other issues.

Are you speaking generally or specifically? Can you say what the issues might be?

specifically. showers were slow to heat. team buses were smelly on ride back. coach required attendance to practice. coach required attendance to video sessions. coach required attendance to games.

maybe the program should work harder at keeping players on the team. seems every couple years good players leave prematurely. certainly had an impact this year.
