you are conflating 2 arguments

lets start with the first- Communist leaders don't have to worry about the Press because they own the press- if you go against doctrine in those countries the leader doesn't call you anything ,you just seem to disappear either from your job or the Earth

A free press simply means you can do your job- it doesn't mean that people who you cover cant object to how well you do it and the responsibility is on the Press to do the job in a fair and responsible way

The second-Trump has the right to say whatever he wants about the press, he has a contentious relationship with them yet he speaks to them everyday multiple times
(he speaks to them ,not some surrogate) so one could argue that he is the most transparent of all admins. he has established NO laws or decrees that infringe on their ability to do their jobs. they don't have the right to not be criticized, but he hasn't stopped any news org from doing their job
come to think of it- the only ones infringing on rights are the Govs - who are regulating church services, rights to assemble with the lockdown and as far as free speech goes- You tube, facebook and twitter have banned any speech that goes contrary to convention on the Covid subject

so far as I know congress hasn't passed any laws concerning these rights- and im sure you understand how laws get passed
