Fox News’ Bret Baier paused his show Monday night to directly address President Donald Trump’s critiques of his network.

“Fox has not changed,” he said. “We have a news side and an opinion side. Opinion folks express their opinions. We do polls.”

“Our latest poll had the Democratic candidates head to head, several of them ahead of President Trump, and this poll tracks exactly what the Real Clear Politics average of polls — even a little the other way — and this poll matches what we are seeing out there,” he added, showing a graphic of Trump losing one-on-one matchups with former Vice President Joe Biden and Sens. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and Kamala Harris (D-CA).

FOX has to think strategically for the long term. They've anchored themselves to tugboat Trump but at some point they need to cut lose. They don't want to lose his followers but also don't want to go down on sinking ship either. They're testing the waters, letting some analysts speak against Trump once in awhile, letting an actual fact slip through the cracks now and then (above poll results). Trump's responses to their negative coverage (and it's really quite tame) is revolting. Not only does he refuse to acknowledge facts (normal for him), he expects loyalty from FOX not unlike how a dictator expects loyalty from state run TV.

I agree with this analysis as far as we’ve come. What I’m making popcorn for is when the cement starts setting and he really ratchets up the crazy more. How FOX handles it then has me fascinated in advance and I will watch as intently as I would a bug under a magnifying glass. It’s going to be endlessly entertaining to watch cons whiplash to and fro.

If the rally was the days work then that’s legal- but a company has to pay for time worked and has a contract or policy of when you are eligible for OT

They've realized they can remain conservative without having to be Trump TV. They weren't nearly as over the top with Bush and still did very well.

MSNBC and CNN combined have a bigger market share than FOX. There is no other largely popular conservative network and according to Trump all else, including even NPR and PBS and nearly all the newspapers are "left wing." In media, your numbers make or break your company. There is a reason more people tune into/read ""left media" vs "right." Because more Americans lean left or in the middle than lean right.
