Because of PR's pre-Maria lack of infrastructure, most likely, yes. You can helicopter in all the generators in world but if you don't have power lines, or lines connected to your home, or homes itself are partially ruined your not going to have power.
If you have more generators you have more power. Some is better than none, especially for people who need oxygen, dialysis etc.

Not true. You're talking about individual generators which would have been useless in this situation because there isn't the infrastructure to consistently obtain or deliver the fuel needed to keep them going for months at time, especially in remote mountainous areas of PR. Again lots of factors, variables but when you combine poor folks with poor infrastructure with difficult mountainous terrain with an island with two major hurricanes you're going to have people dying in the aftermath.

Thanks, but I underestimated how dopey tRUMP is ... as Florence is about to hit he gets himself embroiled in re-litigating his failure with Hurricane Maria. It would appear the POTUS is jealous of Florence for taking the news focus away from him...
He could not even say something like, "Brownie, you are doing a heck of a job" because that would mean giving praise to somebody other than himself.

He did, of course, blame the Democrats for his inadequacy.
Meanwhile the GOP in Congress sit complicit as ever... singing their old spiritual "we've got our minds right, boss" as they polish their WH master's boots.
And the right wing jerks on this thread, no doubt, will be displaying how they "hold their manhoods cheap" ... so predictable...

Puerto Rican govt hampered the relief effort
They have terrible infrastructure to the remote areas and horrible security for the relief workers and supply . Lots of accounts of hijacking and lawlessness
In the end it is their job to get the aid to where it’s needed- the feds are responsible to get what is needed to the island and that was done

You are going to slide the "death bar" to a place that favors your perspective and makes the President look good.

Your opponents are going to slide the "death bar" the other way to favor their perspective and make the President look bad.

The fact remains that we could have done a better job in dealing with the aftermath of this disaster in Puerto Rico. The fact remains that there were deaths directly caused by the storm and others related to the storm, its consequences and the impact on quality of life for some time afterwards. To think that 3000 died directly or indirectly as a consequence of this storm is not unreasonable. The fact remains that people on both sides used the storm and the pain it has caused as political weapons. They are still doing it right now, as evidenced by the President's tweets today and the expected response from all the pro and con pundits.

We have lost our way as a people. I am ashamed of us all and fear for the lives and future of my grand children.

Don't be so fearful. Politics like this have been going on for a couple hundred years. Much worse examples in the past.

Not sure what you claim, in terms of doing better, are facts. We could do better with any disaster theoretically. That's not saying much.

AgentOrange moved $10M from FEMA to ICE to aid detention. Tell Reps: Fund disaster relief & end family separation. TheDotard is seeking to keep toddlers captive longer than the alloted 20 days. Winning?

It came out of the FEMA education budget not disaster relief. No need to get your panties in a twist.

                        Thanks for asking ---

The problem is the "President of the USA" is an idiot and Congress has a majority of cowards... and with a major hurricane about to make landfall, POTUS is more interested in tweeting to defend his incompetence, than he is in rallying the citizens in a crisis.
Kind of follows from what Woodward wrote and what the anonymous source told the NYT
                        It is fairly simple really.

Rally the people? They evacuated- it’s life saving time
The rallying comes after when we have to rebuild

Fact checking Trump on his Maria claims. Several analyses showed the death toll at around thousand in the few weeks just after the hurricane. The Harvard and GW studies have higher counts because they looked at longer time periods (GW was six months)

•The New York Times calculated 1,052 deaths through October.
•The Center for Investigative Reporting calculated 985 through October.
•University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez professors calculated 822, with a 95 percent confidence range that the total was somewhere between 605 and 1,039.
•Alexis R. Santos-Lozada of Pennsylvania University and a colleague calculated excess deaths of about 500 in September, or a total of 1,085 if the same pattern held in October. In a research note published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, they reported that the inclusion of the December deaths indicated an excess death toll of 1,139.
•A Latino USA analysis, using updated data from Puerto Rico’s Department of Health, calculated 1,194 excess deaths in September and October.

So the Mayer of San Juan and the pr governor don’t like trump because they are liberal democrats. They should answer the the recently reported 20,000 pallets af bottled water still sitting on a tarmac in Puerto Rico. Instead, they will just point to the conveniently released new study, right before the midterms that took the death toll from 64 to approx 3000. Guess Puerto Rican’s can’t count. It took over a year to count the bodies? They want to count the 75 year old bed ridden woman in dialysis who hasn’t had access to medicine? Where was her family? All b.s.

Govt of pr is corrupt and inept. They should point the finger at themselves. Poor Caribbean islands that were hit harder bounced back better and ha$ less fake deaths. Amazing!
