What we've got hear is a failure to communicate

He could not even say something like, "Brownie, you are doing a heck of a job" because that would mean giving praise to somebody other than himself.
He did, of course, blame the Democrats for his inadequacy.
Meanwhile the GOP in Congress sit complicit as ever... singing their old spiritual "we've got our minds right, boss" as they polish their WH master's boots.
And the right wing jerks on this thread, no doubt, will be displaying how they "hold their manhoods cheap" ... so predictable...

They have terrible infrastructure to the remote areas and horrible security for the relief workers and supply . Lots of accounts of hijacking and lawlessness
In the end it is their job to get the aid to where it’s needed- the feds are responsible to get what is needed to the island and that was done

What is there to counter?
You are going to slide the "death bar" to a place that favors your perspective and makes the President look good.
Your opponents are going to slide the "death bar" the other way to favor their perspective and make the President look bad.
The fact remains that we could have done a better job in dealing with the aftermath of this disaster in Puerto Rico. The fact remains that there were deaths directly caused by the storm and others related to the storm, its consequences and the impact on quality of life for some time afterwards. To think that 3000 died directly or indirectly as a consequence of this storm is not unreasonable. The fact remains that people on both sides used the storm and the pain it has caused as political weapons. They are still doing it right now, as evidenced by the President's tweets today and the expected response from all the pro and con pundits.
We have lost our way as a people. I am ashamed of us all and fear for the lives and future of my grand children.

Not sure what you claim, in terms of doing better, are facts. We could do better with any disaster theoretically. That's not saying much.

Kind of follows from what Woodward wrote and what the anonymous source told the NYT
It is fairly simple really.

Fact checking Trump on his Maria claims. Several analyses showed the death toll at around thousand in the few weeks just after the hurricane. The Harvard and GW studies have higher counts because they looked at longer time periods (GW was six months)
•The New York Times calculated 1,052 deaths through October.
•The Center for Investigative Reporting calculated 985 through October.
•University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez professors calculated 822, with a 95 percent confidence range that the total was somewhere between 605 and 1,039.
•Alexis R. Santos-Lozada of Pennsylvania University and a colleague calculated excess deaths of about 500 in September, or a total of 1,085 if the same pattern held in October. In a research note published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, they reported that the inclusion of the December deaths indicated an excess death toll of 1,139.
•A Latino USA analysis, using updated data from Puerto Rico’s Department of Health, calculated 1,194 excess deaths in September and October.

Govt of pr is corrupt and inept. They should point the finger at themselves. Poor Caribbean islands that were hit harder bounced back better and ha$ less fake deaths. Amazing!
