again it has zero to do with illegal immigration at the southern border- these people are caught in the act and have been on US soil for an hour

And because they are on our soil, our Constitution defines what rights they have at that point under the 5th and 14th Amendments. Illegal or not, the Constitution applies here.

Or are you suggesting we forego the Constitutional protections accorded all persons in the United States of America?

This was all battled to death in Congress and in the courts way back when Cuba was sending folks across the water in boats. There were thousands of illegal immigrants trying to come across and when caught, they were given the same processes and access to justice as we are talking here now. Yes, there were a bunch of felons in the group. Castro emptied his prisons of them and sent them across. If you recall, there were many people put in detention camps right in Miami as their cases were adjudicated. Some were granted asylum. Some were not. Nearly all the felons were deported back to Cuba. I'm sure there were some bad apples that slipped through. Tis the nature of the beast, but all in all, it was managed as effectively as it could be managed.

The same will happen here. But the rule of law in this country cannot be suspended at convenience.

i remember but that was a little different- Communist dictator with an diplomatic freeze since the late50s, cuba missile crisis and bay of pigs- cuba was a whole different story than anywhere in south or central America-
