The new study resulted from the Oregon Medicaid experiment, in which Oregon expanded Medicaid to a limited number of lower income non-disabled adults using a lottery. The expansion’s design, which involved random assignment, allowed researchers to draw more reliable conclusions about the impact of Medicaid eligibility than observational studies. Here is the way the authors describe their central findings:

Medicaid coverage resulted in significantly more outpatient visits, hospitalizations, prescription medications, and emergency department visits. Coverage significantly lowered medical debt, and virtually eliminated the likelihood of having a catastrophic medical expenditure. Medicaid substantially reduced the prevalence of depression, but had no statistically significant effects on blood pressure, cholesterol, or cardiovascular risk.

not the op but that is a huge problem. First, some walk in clinics are not covered by insurance plans, but the ER is. That makes no sense. Big picture we are facing a future doctor shortage in this country. People can longer afford medical school or have to go into specialty care to pay off loans. I have two friends who are pediatricians and another who is an adult GP. Their insurance company payments are so ridiculously low and their incomes haven't even kept up with inflation by the time pay staff, rent and ever rising liability insurance. We have huge areas of this country with an insufficient number of physicians. We need government paid for programs (state and/or federal) to help make med school a reality for more aspiring physicians. Some states have programs where they'll pay for med school if you serve rural areas for 5 years. We need more of ideas like that. Meanwhile where my folks live in FL there is an orthopedist on every corner.

Seems the money to be made in medicine is by being a drug dealer. Every other ad is for this drug or that drug.

Some hospitals are not covered by insurance. So, imagine an ambulance takes you to a not-covered ER. That will bankrupt you.

Not only that, but at a covered hospital, some doctors are not covered by your insurance. So, what if you get treatment by a non-covered doctor while at hospital? $$$$$

Furthermore, not all labs are covered by your insurance. So, let's say your covered hospital uses a non-covered lab? $$$$$

You are ill. You came into the hospital by ambulance. How are you expected to manage all of these things you don't know?

The American healthcare system is garbage. It is indended to suck out all of your money and give it to rich people, like the Trump tax cuts. Single-payer healthcare and getting rid of for-profits in healthcare represent the only way to take care of Americans; be patriotic, support such a direction.

He doesn't extend that to white people, such as pharmaceutical company CEOs who are passing out Oxy.

In Europe the middle class have free healthcare (you won't go broke if you go sick, unlike here where medical bills is a leading driver of bankruptcy filings), quality education (we score poorly vs other developed countries on almost every measure) and free university attendance (we having a student loan crisis in this country). Do they pay more in taxes? Yes. But they score consistently higher on happiness and quality of life surveys. You get what you pay for.
Regardless of the " free" health care , which isn't free, as you yourself pointed out. It is those " more in taxes" that they pay that funds it.

If you take the time to list and examine the particulars, that being , the independent financial wealth of middle class Europeans vs the " poor " in America , and issues like living conditions, cars owned, home ownership etc. the figures don't lie. The American " poor " aren't doing as bad as you think. Take a look at obesity rates of the " poorest " areas citizens for example.

I wouldn't trust anything from the UN. One of the most corrupt organizations in history.

                  They also have:

                  1) The highest youth unemployment of developed countries. The education is so good kids cant get a job. Have you ever driven through Paris.
                  2) Some of the highest Debt to GDP in the world. Italy at 188% Debt to GDP. Free stuff adds up, its' the reason their economies are so sluggish. Obama did a good getting US to compete with the EU in this regard.
                  3) The longest wait time for health care. Taking months at times to be seen by a doctor.

Of course they're happy when you have someone else flipping the bill. It's the socialist mindset "why should I get off my azz and sweat" when someone lese can do it for me."

The simple story is that addiction happens all the time when people get opioids for pain and that simple story is clearly wrong," says Stefan Kertesz, associate professor of preventive medicine at the University of Alabama.

The research actually shows that people who developed new addictions in recent years were overwhelmingly not pain patients. Instead, they were mainly friends, relatives, and others to whom those pills were diverted—typically young people. Among the older patients, many who appeared to be newly addicted had actually relapsed or never recovered from prior addictions: some faked pain to get pills from well-meaning doctors; others got them from pill mills where shady physicians wrote prescriptions for cash.

And his school signed a letter to Trump pleading for gun control legislation. Trump cares nothing for soccer or US kids, not even his own. Even before he became president you wouldn't find him cheering the kid on the sidelines. It is well know in NYC he is a completely absentee father. There are baby daddies more involved with their kids than he is
