"Last year, the New York Times noted that she oversaw the torture of the terrorism suspects and “later took part in an order to destroy videotapes documenting their brutal interrogations.” Haspel, the Times said, played a “direct role” in the CIA’s “extraordinary rendition program,” in which “captured militants were handed to foreign governments and held at secret facilities, where they were tortured by agency personnel.” President Barack Obama ordered the so-called black sites shuttered in 2009, shortly after he took office.

Location, location, location. When starting a family, or starting out in the working world, one typically chooses where to live based on many factors: available jobs in your field, climate, entertainment, relative income, etc. Quality schools are part of that equation as well.

4 good days are better than 5 crap days

Agreed. When we were having our first child, we moved to a town that had a better educational system. I have family members that went the Private School route; some home-schooled.

and many families cannot afford to do so

OK teachers are going to walk out to protest lousy pay, treatment and eroding of public schools. States who have severely cut back on education spending are all GOP dominated and all have cra* schools. OK has cut spending by 28% since 2008. Imagine what that kind of cut would do to your kids' schools.

Oh, but wait, the GOP likes an uneducated electorate. They vote GOP.

You know how lots of people are moving out of the state and the NE? Virtually everyone I know who has moved south (FL, TX, GA, TN, NC) they've all put their kids in private schools there. This despite doing their research about what the best districts are. They said they knew CT/NY/ NJ had great schools but they didn't realize how bad they were elsewhere.
The sky high taxes in the NY metro area pay for very fine schools and that does not come cheap. It supports high home values as well and keeps out people that cannot afford those high prices.

You can cheap property taxes or you can get quality public education. You can't get both.

Here's the truth. Spend 14 billion $$ on a wall, and each and every time you prevent an illegal from sneaking in, the Taxpayer saves forever. No Government entitlements for them or Welfare for their children. The money for the Wall will be made up in no time. And there would be MORE taxpayer money to spend on AMERICAN citizens children, not Dreamers and other illegals.
They pay taxes fool. Anyone with a rent or mortgage payment (which is everyone) is paying property tax which pays for public schools.

Overall yes, but there are exceptions. If a town has a decent amount of commercial property it can help lessen home owner tax burdens. But so many want quant NE-looking towns and fight development.

It's not a wealthy school, lower income but not terribly impoverished. Has far more minorities and general issues than most schools in CT. Kids that don't get support, don't know what to do for the rest of their lives. It's eye opening and depressing as it's representative of many HS students these days. We are very fortunate (and fight like you said) that we have such good schools. Many states do not. All kids in the US deserve a quality free education. It shouldn't be determined based on what state you live in.
Free education? Someone always pays. You just think the ones getting the education and thier families shouldn’t pay. You also believe the people who were either voted in to oversee the education process and the ones voted in and paid to oversee the finances of the state, including collection and allocation of taxes aren’t best suited to do thier job. Now you think the federal govt should handle it.

Let me guess. You vote democratic?

More bureaucracy is not the answer. Taxing the productive citizens more to pay for the unproductive is not the answer either. Never watched the show, but I bet if the cameras followed the kids home, you would find the parents don’t put an emphasis on education at home and are not giving the kids parental support and oversight. To an extent, you have to let Darwinism run its course. I had chickens. They would peck at the weakest bird to the point of killing it. At first I felt bad. I took the weaker bird out of the general population and nursed it back to health. Two things happened. First, the chickens started pecking the second weakest bird, so all I did was create a new target. Second, after the original weakest was nursed back to health and I put it back with the other chickens, it immediately became pecked at again to the point of death. So all I did was delay the inevitable.

Moral of the story is someone has to be the runt! You can’t save everyone.

I bet you call youself a christian or a jew or have some religious affiliation where you sit there and pretend to believe that the poor and the sick snd the weak and the sinners should be cared for and forgiven and supported.

Yes, the solution is to kill the weak and perhaps fry them up. Like chickens. Except me, if I get sick please dont fry me. I'm productive.
