True story - my wife's paternal grandfather was Mexican but came here as a boy. My wife had a Hispanic sounding last name until we got married. But she's as white as the driven snow with no Hispanic cultural identity to speak of (just like I don't for my German heritage). One of her employers wanted to claim her as Hispanic to boost their diversity stats. I mean the guy really pushed for it and she had to really push back. -

Ivys are great for trying to push diversity in hiring and acceptance for undergrads. they push that narrative when soliciting for their endowment ( non Taxed ) so they may have to hit certain numbers for the feds as well to keep everything in check

Story went her parents eloped because of her mother's supposed heritage. I bet they eloped because she was preggo. Families make up stories all the time.
