Note, I say moving not cancelling altogether. Hopefully they can play in the spring. I feel for the players. It sucks but they're stuck in a literal political football. The nation knows the majority of college football programs are shut down and the NFL will no doubt have some outbreaks - it's inevitable - so politicians have a hard time justifying HS football as well. Face it, many people don't care about data and facts.
Speaking of NFL. They released some testing numbers yesterday. It is amazing how few cases. Makes me wonder about testing protocol. I would bet a large amount of money that they define a case as something like PCR at under 25 cycles. The rest of us get a 40 cycle test. Remember the 77 false positives for the NFL a couple of weeks ago? I guarantee that the lab ran those test at 40 cycles like you and I get. That was an error for the NFL who have their test run at a much lower cycles. That is why all 77 came back negative.
NFL PA will never release their protocols to the public. Does not fit national narrative.

CIAC should disregard the DPH. Pass the risk on to the participants, the parents. Let them choose. Pennsylvania did the same. Governor recommended moving the fall season. Dept of Health did the same. Ultimately it was PIAA (CIAC equivalent) decision. They proceeded and each district decided if they would participate. This is how it should work.

In determining the status of interscholastic athletic opportunities for the state or an individual school district, the CIAC will rely on the State Department of Education’s Indicators for Consideration of Learning Models (https://data.ct.gov/stories/s/CT-Sch...ing/ddy2-ijgu/).

In DPH’s latest letter to the CIAC (August 23, 2020), it does not recommend playing volleyball as a moderate-risk indoor sport, nor football as a high-risk outdoor sport. This recommendation is not consistent with the ReOpen CT Guidelines for non-interscholastic sport, which have permitted indoor moderate risk and outdoor high-risk sport activities since July 6, 2020. The CIAC continues to discuss and seek clarification from DPH on the inconsistency of this recommendation given that it restricts interscholastic sport opportunities that are otherwise permissible, forthe same student population, in the
        private sector.

That could happen, but I also think NFL players saw the bumps MLB hit in the early days and most players buckled down and followed protocols. If you want to play you have to take precautions. Hopefully they can keep it up.

MLB players union is much stronger then NFL PA. MLB players said f you to the draconian lockdown bs. No bubbles no BS. NFL PA does not have that strength. NFL players are easily replaced. Not the stars but the other 90% plus and their careers are generally short. Plenty in the wings waiting to take their place.

How can you run a sports league while dealing with this. This will be happening everywhere.

You are going to need to accept that positive test mean nothing
The kid is not sick. (Didn’t report symptoms so I assume that)
We need to stop the overreacting
Schools did not get closed for Flu or mono or chicken pox.
Clean the rooms where kid was and open back up.
Why parents are you allowing your children to be tested
                Stop please
No good will come from it.

and it's exactly why they're limiting cohorts, so there's much less contract tracing that has to be done. He was in the B group, whatever that is, so it's immediately lowered to number of possible contacts

In my district a contact or exposure is defined as the following
                    Inside
                    Within 6 feet
                    Face to face
                    15 minutes or longer
                    No mask

Since mask required at school, no students or teachers will ever have an exposure
No one would need to quarantine other then the test positive
Take a day and clean the school and move on.

I think most have it defined that way. Kids are way more likely to get it from family members or at a social event than they are in school. That kid wasn't even on a bus either, where masks are also required. A huge percentage of parents opted out of buses in our district for now. As long as people remain calm, officials use data and not emotion, we should be ok. Should be....

                        2 things to watch
                        A. What is the school districts reaction or actions.
B is there any school spread associated with the “case”

Still not a lot of important details about “case” not known.
I hope we find out more so we can access the two items above.

And this is precisely why school administrators must take these actions. They know some parents are so stupid and selfish that they will risk other peoples health just so they can watch their daughters play 8 meaningless games.

I agree! Maybe we should just cancel school altogether and have the kids play sports instead.

Please tell me this would not apply to girls' high school soccer. Thank goodness we don't live in the UK....
