Different poster and I'lll give you an actual example of why this is spreading: Wife's family in Western MA has a 22 year old ditzy cousin getting married very soon (god forbid they postpone for 6 months). My MIL and her sister went to the bridal shower a few weeks ago, an event they thought was only going to be immediate family and the bridal party but wound up having 30 people there. People wore masks into the home (oh, the original restaurant cancelled because of Covid restrictions and couldn't accommodate them) but took them off almost immediately. My MIL and her sister, who had been told people would have masks, never took their's off except to take some sips from bottled water. Many of the 20-something friends got pretty boozy and it was an all afternoon affair. MIL and sister came up with a story about my MIL feeling dizzy and needing to go home after an hour. Flash forward two weeks or so and ten people from that event have Covid. Who knows if they've spread it to others. One, the mother of the bride no less, is in the hospital but is doing better now. They're worried it will make the newspaper (eye roll)

See having a mask but not wearing it when you should is as useless as tits on a bull.

It was a brutal disease. There were plenty of skeptics back then, like now, and plenty local and state governments that made huge mistakes, just like now. Wilson also downplayed the severity of the illness, just like Trump has.
      No but they had mask.
And according to cdc mask are better then vaccine
So why did mask not work back then either?

        Who cares.
No one is ever going to wear a mask at home.
        It is a non starter.
Particularly since they are very ineffective.

Just a reminder that masks, even properly fitted ones that are used correctly and disposed of routinely, have not stopped nearly 277,000 healthcare personnel from getting Covid

California reported 52,281 new cases today, despite the expert created “blueprint for a safer economy” on 8/28.

Cases are up 1151% since the statewide mask mandate. Closing indoor dining & curfews failed.

And of course, cases are up 703% since Newsom’s went to French Laundry.

CA has the perfect storm of rising cases before Thanksgiving, people had Thanksgiving celebrations anyway (can't fix stupid, every state ash that), large Hispanic and African American populations (where the virus is worse), very dry air (were the virus travels better). I also wonder if all the wildfires and smoke has made people's lungs more susceptible somehow?

"The burden will not be shared equally. Even though California leads the country in gross domestic product and is home to a staggering amount of wealth, it also has the highest percentage of people living in poverty, according to the Census Bureau’s supplemental poverty measure. As with other places in the country, entrenched racial and economic inequality is reflected in pandemic data.

Barbara Ferrer, the director of the county’s Department of Public Health, said the rates of infection, hospitalization and death are all rising faster for Los Angeles’s Latino and Black residents than for White residents. The gap between rich and poor is also growing, as people living in poverty continue to be at a higher risk of infection and death."

Looks like most states are past their peaks of cases so in about two weeks deaths will start to subside as well. Christmas will be interesting time for everyone but the spreader events would all be happening this weekend in the parties.

Hope everyone has a great new year and looking forward to soccer talk on this site again. even if most of that was rubbish as well i enjoy it.

Per capita case numbers in CA are troublesome but they are not the only state with high per capita numbers, including several red states. The next few weeks as the larger impact of Thanksgiving is felt and into January (post holidays) are predicted to be pretty awful in the US. An estimated 80K deaths in less than a month. This isn't just a CA crisis, it's a national one.

                  Cases per capita

Tennessee 138 and rising - mask mandate for anyone over 10 years old
Rhode Island 109 (falling a bit) - statewide mandate
Arizona 98 and rising - mask mandates by county
CA 93 and rising - statewide mandate
Indiana 91 and falling slightly - statewide mandate, started Nov 13
Nevada 87 and falling slightly statewide mandate

CT 69 and falling slightly (yeah!)

Well, only 3,293 died yesterday from covid. So, yet another monument is needed for beating Pearl Harbor and 9/11 death tolls. Hey, that makes 9,929 Americans dying in just the last 3 days. Think of it. That’s an entire City’s population wiped off the map in 3 days thanks to President Trump. And, with news from Florida that they have been hiding their terrible covid numbers for months - we can look forward to many more being added to that figure.

For our Peru fan -- Peru new cases in the last 3 days - 4,684. Peru covid deaths the last 3 days 184. The United States new cases in the last 3 days -- 686,222. The United States new covid deaths in the last 3 days -- 9,929.

Hey -- good news though -- Pfizer has millions of doses sitting in warehouses waiting for the Federal Govt. to say where they are supposed to be delivered too. Apparently, Pence and his crack team forgot that there would be deliveries after Day 1 and that the job was just getting started. "What, more deliveries? -- why bother now that I got my shot this morning on TV. Wasn't that good enough for you?"

Yeah, and 8,800 die every single day in the country and I don’t see you shedding tears. Flu numbers are down 91% from last year. 91%! Going to guess overall death numbers are the same even with Covid. You’re a clueless fool.

                              It is summer in Peru.
How did CT due during the summer?
It is almost like the virus is seasonal & regional...
... like every other coronavirus ever.

Covid is awesome- we have dropped our normal daily death rate for all other diseases
and we did it without finding cures for any of them
the flu isnt an issue either, just didnt show up this year apparently
car accidents, heart attacks, cancer, chocking, old age none seem to be happening, must be because of Covid
Homicides still occur unless of course if they test you for Covid, then you died of Covid
crazy how the data has changed
