I am not a big Oakwood fan, but this doesn't seem right. And by that I mean your analysis. There is a 5 year gap between you 9 and U14. The parents didn't see her playing time decline over those five years? I bet it did and I bet she barely played by u12 and U13. FSA in CFC should be more fair in their assessments of all players from year to year as well. There should not be tenure in youth sports that claim to be competitive. Nor should there be parent coaching or favoritism. Every year the kids that come out should be assessed and the top players taken. It's very simple.

in the end it still a business. they will keep (string along) players that dont belong on a team as long as they pay the bill. then when they hit GDA there gone. all 3 of the big clubs do it! its just that CFC and FSA have alternates within the club at every age group where as OW does not and you need to leave.

I agree. So what, they've been at the club since u9. A lot happens in that time. Studs turn into suds, and vice versa. And when did they tell her this? Why stay if they tell you she won't be playing? Basically, we have 1/16th of the story. Basing a club on that type of info is pretty dumb. If a club told me my child wouldn't be there at u14, then I'd get out way before then. Get established at another club while you can. Plus, they could've been right. Maybe she just wasn't good at all. That being said, you are absolutely correct. Up until a certain age, most of the clubs will carry anyone for a paycheck. At least Oakwood doesn't have B and C teams like some of the others. Talk about just bringing in a paycheck!

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I thought OW did have “B teams” at several age groups, especially for girls?

I count 3 girls age groups at Oakwood that have 2 teams. Hardly “a lot”. I believe it’s for the players not selected for the da teams or the ones who just don’t want da.

Most are just the girls and boys divided into 2 groups for games equally. Not A and B like most clubs

Your kid must be one of the kids on the white team. They are rarely divided equally, and never if the league game that week features a stronger opponent. They are only divided equally when the opponent allows it. Let's face it, OW tries hard not to lose like every other youth club. Also, just because you see 1 roster as OW does not mean it is one team. At younger ages, one pool of players equals 2 and sometimes 3 sets of full teams .... otherwise, they would have the largest rosters of any club in CT. Often they only participate in 1 league and add in a few friendlies for the stiffs on the team to get some time (and the stars to get more time as well!).

So to recap, OW does indeed have B teams at multiple age groups.

yes (2) groups and they move studs to games that matter

Ummm, nope. They don't have multiple teams. A single team coached by a single coach. Yes, they have GDA and NPL at the same age. Do they carry larger rosters? Yes in some cases. But clearly not enough to carry two full teams. Unless you're looking at the YTL roster. Freak.

It’s actually a compliment to OW. Clearly there’s something there if all these non OW people pay so much attention to them.
