There's a window of opportunity as the winter showcases and spring events to get recruited. Mid Major programs are not entirely wrapped up with their 2003s and honestly that's where most solid CT kids end up fitting. D2 and D3 are even more open. It's worth the roll of the dice for the events alone.

Your comment on the ID events is misguided. The Majority of players at an ID clinic don't belong. A small faction are invited and the coaches all have eyes on them. For anyone else that stands out, the next logical step is to have that coach see you compete in a club game against other college bound players. If you don't play for a team that has access to the big events then you are SOL.

My concern at OW would be their reputation for NOT playing everyone at a showcase. Oakwood likes to win showcases. Going and not playing is far worse than never going at all.
But the 03s are the first class to be impacted by the rule changes. There already were top players committed prior to the new rules taking place and others were already on coaches' radars. For lower level programs, sure, there's still some opportunities there. But that doesn't mean you need GDA or OW to get there. Those lower level programs will also be shopping at lower level showcases and often times don't require the patches to get a spot. As for ID events - they have become a necessary evil in the process. Yes many players are there to pad program budgets, but even players on their radar need to attend them now. They key is targeting the right programs, doing your best to make sure they're interested in you, selling yourself once you're there. If you're targeting the usual half day's drive that most students will be interested in, you can do a lot of $150 clinics vs spending thousands in club fees and traveling to events. And, once you go to the showcases you'll just get invited to the ID events anyway.

OW does not play their bench at showcases. So, if you're on the bench for OW, understand you are paying good money to get some other kid a college spot. That said, Eastern is not a top-tier college, so you can probably do better yourself anyway.

Really, OW is not what it once was. Part of this is the chaotic youth soccer environment that OW cannot control, but a large part is the history of daddy coaching, favoritism, and inability to help good players develop into better players.

You are writing a narrative that you want to believe. Look at the coaches that attend Jefferson CUP, PDA, the ECNL events and DA showcases. It’s every D1 school in the nation and all of the high quality D3 schools in the Nation. That’s where you get recruited.

If you want to waste your time at the GPS events or dozens of ID clinics, knock yourself out.

Study the rosters of the schools you are targeting. It’s the perfect insight as to the recruiting patterns of that coaching staff.

When talking about 03s the poster's advice is pretty solid. Joining now as a junior is late in the game. Better programs are already done and others are getting closer. In CT no one is getting on the CFCU ECNL roster at this point. OW has openings but the first showcase is in a few weeks and then there isn't another for many months. I wouldn't even waste a dime at FSA. For an 04 sophomore then yes its much more worthwhile (if you will realistically get good PT) because coaches are still compiling their lists for June 2020 correspondence.

Totally agree on looking at rosters. If your resume isn't anywhere near most of the current players, especially starters, I probably wouldn't bother unless it's your dream school. Better academic and soccer targeting leads to better outcomes.

This week :). Watch how the rosters will suddenly grow between ow and the showcase.

Go out to USDA site and look at GP and GS for current players ..... Watch all of the new players that start accruing those with any new games ..... Not just GHS but the prep schools as well.

Current rosters show. check back in 3 weeks

U15s 16 players with only one playing in 1 game but it's a GK so hard to tell
U16s 16 players only one with no PT and a few with barely any games
U17s 13 players including three with zero PT thus far
U19s 19 players including two with no PT and a few others with only 1-2 games

I wouldn't put it past a TS poster to take screen shots and do a name by name comparison lol. The above is as far as I take it. How have they even managed the 17s? 13 players, three who aren't playing? It's not like the U16s have a ton of players to play up on 17s.

16s have played up weekly for the 17s. Place is a mess.

Well OW brings this on themselves by how they treat their own players. Yes it is only kids soccer but from a young age they only try to develop a chosen few and the rest are there to pay bills and be training aids.
