USSF made no such ultimatum. They will always choose the best players. GDA will never be able to cover the whole country.

hey if you are chasing a national team spot and think being aligned in the northeast at GDA is going to get you there then you are misguided. But go ahead keep chugging forward into this abyss

I am sure they would if they bothered to look outside of the clubs that pay them to play in their league ... but they do not ..... scouting is confined to DA and GDA clubs and the reports given to them by coaches in said clubs. It really is the fox guarding the hen house ..... to your point, they have been doing a bang up job over the last 10 years on the men's side. he last mens WC was outstanding .... I hope our NT learned a lot about the game watching it from their living room as I did.

I have no doubt GDA gets preference because US Soccer is invested in its success; but there have been many scouts at ECNL events and yes, league games too. This is fact, because they are easy to spot wearing “USA” all over their gear. So, they are still scouting outside GDA.

How many national team players have been called up from ECNL since girls DA? Does anyone know? Teams in the NE the first year of DA switched to DA while they had NT level players and then switched back to ECNL. Does anyone know any of the stats?

The 3 players listed from dual ECNL/GDA Clubs you mention (So. Cal and Solar) all play GDA.

                    Total breakdown:

                    24 players total
                    GDA - 17
                    Other - 4
                    ECNL - 3

Thanks for breaking this down. Seems telling.

No problem, yes it does (and I’m an ECNL parent btw). Unfortunately, they’re doing this to prove a point, and it could ultimately hurt the end product. There are obviously top notch players in both ECNL and GDA, to skew it so heavily GDA is spiteful.

What is the point of the GDA if they are not going to pick the vast majority of the players from that pool?

Agreed. And just watch those top ECNL players suddenly show up on the NTs of their parents/grandparents countries. USSF won't be happy until some californian kid scores against the USWNT while playing for Spain or something.

More than likely once these players are in college you will find ECNL players on the better college teams and hence back in the national team picture.

They have to justify their existence. Remember, they identified ECNLs limitations and felt they could do it better via the GDA. Given this backdrop, there is no way they will ever pick a majority of ECNL players to fill WYNT rosters. Never.
