Yes if your goal is D1, especially top 2/3 D1 you pretty much need MLSN. There's just too much good competition for fewer spots. But that leaves low D1, D2 and D3 where MLSN most often isn't always necessary. Realistically even when stronger BS and OW only sent a couple to higher D1 programs. We are a small state and simply don't have many players at that level. The D1 grind also doesn't appeal to everyone.

Not all kids want to play HS so MLSN suits them. The level of play is absolutely higher as a league. But players also have to consider the quality of coaching and teammates of their local club options. BS is ok, OW terrible. Not many can make the trek to NY or MA. Is it worth it? That's up to each player, but no one should be pursuing this expecting a payout. Do it because you're passionate about the sport and your family can afford it. If college happens? Fantastic. Regardless you will be hanging up your cleats sooner or later. No one is going pro.

The biggest missed expectation is coaching in CT MLSnext. What good is facing high level opponents, if you are not prepared to face them?

I totally agree. And how good can a player really look if everyone around them is terrible. You can’t win a game 1v11. If OW got good coaches, then I would consider bringing my son, but the coaching and culture need to significantly improve before I would even consider it.
