Still curious about 3 to 5 40 minute games correlate development? These clubs need to add more friendlies to our schedule not tournaments but wait that would actually require they spend a few extra dollars to aid our kid’s development to get access to a field and pretend the refs didn’t show up.

of course they don't "correlate development." and for the majority of CT clubs, your wish absolutely makes sense. But for a few, it just doesn't. (See certain age groups of FSA and CFC boys and CFC girls). And spare me the fantasies. It's true.

It’s only revenue development - sorry no magic here.

Oakwood will be losing playing to FSA and CFC. Parents can’t handle the losing

No need to go to those clubs. They’ve lost crucial years of learning to play as a team. Those kids think they can score a goal from anywhere on the field rather than pass to a teammate in a better position. Better to switch an individual sport.

For older groups who play in ECNL or mls next makes sense because it’s part of the platform but for EDP aka travel+ makes no sense. Do I risk being a “D” of a dad and telling my kid this is a huge waste of your time obviously not. These jokes of clubs need to be realistic. I would have been happy to attend any state tournament this weekend.

I hate driving all over. But look at FSA boy 2011's. They played the EDP teams in EDP this spring for some reason. They won every game by a lot without trying most weeks. They're Littles, but they have no one to play instate except CFC. 2010's, same story, both likely going to national playoffs. It sucks, but that's the way it is... it's not just the HS aged teams.

You're still not getting it. This is how it works. Local clubs don't want to play each other because it shatters the illusion that the club or their league is stronger than the other. TS posters rip losses apart for days, months on end. Realistically there isn't even that much free time in league schedules for friendlies either.

There's a limited quantity of local talent and clubs need fresh grinder meat every year. Marketing matters. Is it stupid? Of course. But it is what it is. As was said above you can chose to participate or chose not to. Most families make the best of the situation and don't whine on TS.

Oh and the kids have a blast at tournaments. Is it how I want to spend a long weekend? Not so much, but they're out of the house before you know it so maybe just enjoy it?

It doesnt, but each club can claim they are the greatest and never have to back it up locally! Hence, they can keep making those claims to lure in more naive, u-little parents and their checkbooks.

Oh, wow, you've really cracked the code of local clubs and their delicate egos! Who knew that playing against each other would shatter the illusion of strength? It's amazing how much power these local clubs hold over the entire universe of soccer.

And don't even get me started on TS posters ripping losses apart for days, months on end. Clearly, these people have found their life's purpose in dissecting every aspect of a match. Who needs a job or hobbies when you can obsess over a game forever?

I totally understand the need for fresh grinder meat every year. Because, you know, clubs can't possibly survive without sacrificing a new batch of players to the soccer gods. It's all about marketing, baby! Who cares about nurturing talent and creating a sustainable system when you can just focus on fancy out of state tournaments and dingy hotel rooms!

But hey, it is what it is, right? We should all just blindly accept the status quo and not question anything. After all, who needs progress and change when we can just keep doing the same thing over and over again? It's not like we have the capacity to organize a few friendlies in between the “packed” league schedules. That would just be madness!

And don't forget the kids. They're having a blast at tournaments! I mean, sure, it might not be how you want to spend a long weekend, but who cares about your preferences? Just suck it up and enjoy it. Because, as we all know, sacrificing your own happiness for the sake of your children's enjoyment is the epitome of a good time.

Thanks for enlightening us with your profound wisdom. I'm off to join a club and immerse myself in their delusions of grandeur. Wish me luck!

It blows my mind that you think the person you're responding to disagrees with you in any way. Have we lost all ability to read for context?

No one is putting a gun to your head to participate in all you profess to hate. You're probably sucking all the fun out of it for your kid too.

Projecting much? Kid is having a blast that is the difference between a parent who knows what to say around a child vs. a parent talking crap on an anonymous soccer forum. I am sure my 10 year old is all over TS forums and knows exactly which "Guest" is their daddy.
