This site is the best for breaking news. Apparently every single soccer club in the state of Ct is on a downward spiral. And they all will fold within days

Anyone have an opinion on the actual benefit (in terms of development and future opportunities) of playing at an MLS Academy out of state vs. any of our top ECNL or MLSn clubs within the state? If a kid can get an offer from an academy like Red Bulls or Revs -- and setting aside the questions of leaving teammates behind, etc. -- is the experience worth making the jump?

Lots of ifs (location, committment, where he falls on depth chart, what his goals are, etc.), if he wants to be a professional soccer player and parents are cool with that, then the answer is that the training, focus, facilities, and opportunities are 1000x better than anything you'll get in-state. Every 16 yr old starting on the Rev, Red Bull, NYCFC, Union, RSL, Dallas, KC... are getting watched by the real powers that be in world professional football. Colleges too, I suppose, but at that level, Im not sure that's the point. In THEORY, the top .01% of boys are in those programs. In reality, no way, as not every family is going to send their 15 year old to go live with some random family in Dalass oor whatever.

Experience? good grief. You are looking at this entirely the wrong way. Is this your kids dream? If they got an offer from an MLS academy and playing this sport is your kids dream then yes it is worth it. If they fail, then they fail but they will never be able to say i didnt have the opportunity. Now will this entire thing be a major inconvenience to you and your family? maybe but it shouldn't matter, neither should it matter that he is leaving teammates behind. Red bull > revs > ECNL > oakwood

For some families, that "major inconvenience" makes it impossible. Don't be so flippant.
But as for leaving friends behind, yeah, eff that, LOL

                        Union>Red bull > revs > ECNL > ECRL > HA > oakwood

Stop now. You're too dumb to be a parent

Location/commute is obviously a big issue with most CT parents. It's not something to shrug off.

If you think your kid has the skills, as well as the full commitment to make it work (keeping up with schoolwork is a nonstarter) then why not try it for a year? Worse comes to worse it doesn't work out. They'll always be able to find a spot elsewhere. Nop doubt the training and exposure on a pro academy team is fantastic. However, if he's not likely to be a starter then that is also something to weigh vs the commitment
