Because most non-academy MLSN teams are just as bad.

So how are we going to turn this club around boys? Show up next week, watch some practices, make some roster changes, and I’ll go “all in” on casino night. Deal?

Ya know…it’s so unique to be coaching. In a sense that everyone on here thinks they can do a better job. None of you are even in the profession and you have opinions and thoughts that…do this formation, play this player in that position. It’s very unique because if you were a doctor or an engineer, you wouldn’t question what they were doing. There would be no “I could do that surgery better, or build that bridge differently”.

I am in the “profession”. You are failing. There are many reasons for it. The top reason is you aren’t putting your best players together on the same teams and in the right positions. I don’t know why that is - I can only guess. You have some of CT’s top offensive players but you squander that by not putting kids actually fit to play defense in defensive positions. I cannot explain this - it’s very obvious who can play and who cannot. Most parents I’ve spoken too can see this too. You can argue you know what you are doing all you want but your teams are scoring goals but getting outscored. Again kind of obvious that you need to pay more attention to defense, but you don’t even know where to start. Problem three is the small field size and multiple scheduled teams on each field limits how teams can practice using the space via various passing drills and patterns. Please build the third field or rent additional fields. Problem four is that most coaches at Oakwood couldn’t coach possession football if they tried. You play a direct style of play from the 90’s. It’s hard to watch. The other teams are controlling the tempo of the game and the scoreline gets away from you. Problem 5 is you simply have too many kids playing up who do not belong there. Maybe for a moment they did, but you and them hang on way too long. It creates an undercurrent on each team and at U13-14 you lose all your best players because you never built anything for them to believe in and you spent the last few years making sacrifices to keep a few kids playing up that should have been managed back down to Earth years prior. Each year creates an impossible sense of entitlement that leaks on to the field in every play. Problem 6 the coaches never promote teamwork. Individual efforts are praised so more individual efforts are given regardless of negative outcomes on the field.

How’s that for building a bridge. I’d be happy to do open heart surgery on this club. I’d make everyone try out again this winter and omit the current staff from selection including the NJ crew who appears to also be clueless. Bring in NE Revs for an independent evaluation.

So new owners hired him blindly without checking his vision for the club first? That explains it...

Wow this guy/gal gets it. Candidate for next director?

The only problem I’d add to the list is that our team is stocked with undersized players, and we get pushed off the ball a lot in key situations. Unless the owners have a stretching machine at the facility, I’m not sure we are going to get this solved this season.

Is it weird that my kid told me last night that he had a dream that his Oakwood team got a new player and finished the season with a 0.500 record? They have one win so far.

I love the point about practice field size, this is an issue we see at our club, too. No room to practice extensive patterns with 2-3 teams per field.

try multiple injections of steroids 15 minutes prior to game start, worked wonders for my kid who is now the tallest on their cfc team

Maybe this is why playing direct isn’t working? If you can’t possess the ball at all in this day and age there will be limited success against high-level competition. There’s only 1 ball, and it moves faster than any kid can run if you play as a team.

It is a real thing. You cannot learn to work as a team in space if all your practice space provides is room for 1v1, 2v2, and 4v4 experiences. Show me how we can teach “up, back, and through” and other rotations to the pre-MLS and MLSnext boys on a postage stamp field? They need those tactics to win.

Earlier Coach poster thought he was going to “big boy” posters here. Nice try. A few of your parents understand the game far more than most coaches at this club.

Good idea, but there are literally kids the size of a 4 year old playing some of these MLS teams. It’s really wild. I’m sure someone thought it was innovative because they could dribble though a players legs. It’s not.

wow! Can we get this guy running a club or something? Or at least coaching a team?

In the profession, but hiding in anonymity on this message board.

Think that would make you part of the problem, now. Huh?
