That's just as bad as anything else associated with high school soccer. You're not paying them. They're paying you. Telling kids to not play a sport for their school is complete BS.

first of all, the refs are no better or worse than club. I agree they are very inconsistent but go to any club game and you see crazy parents yelling at the refs of every game. Second of all, I don't understand the backlash on this subject. Nobody is holding a gun to anyone's head saying they have to play high school soccer.

If you don't want your kid to play, then so be it. but why all the bashing? The quality is less than club, I think we can all agree on this, but so what. Some kids like playing with their classmates in front of their peers. This is something they rarely get to do for their club team.

      So to recap
1)high school soccer is a choice not mandatory
      2) refs are bad everywhere
      3) parents need therapy 9or a big hug)
4)our kids only have a few years of playing so let them be kids and have fun whichever path they choose
5)I look forward to the dissection of this post

I watched a HS game on Friday night and it was a blast! Many of these posts have a lot of broad generalizations about how bad HS soccer is but that does not match my experience. I thought the level of play was quite good. The officiating was about equal to what I see at club games. The players seem to really enjoy playing against girls they have know for years from various clubs. I will admit that these 2 teams have several girls from ECNL and ODP so maybe they are not typical but it was very fun!

Totally agree. Kids are not club coaches' property what they do off their watch is totally up to them. I find it unethical and selfish. High School, while it does stink, is still a team sport and it affects others on the team. I would not allow my kid to play for such an egomaniac. Of course unless you agreed to it up front like DA.

I'm sure the refs have the same impression of high school girls. They play like U10 & U11 a lot of the time.

The biggest difference between club and HS soccer is fans actually show up to watch a HS soccer game. Club soccer is a parent circle jerk.

the same soccer fans show at both ... they are the players families. Of course, the games you have to travel out of town for usually have fewer of your fans, but that is normal and occurs in both HS and club. The biggest difference for us as parents is that I don't question what is happening with the players and the game with club, it is fast and intense. With HS, we are often left scratching our heads as to why there is so much substitution and moving the players around; players play a position for 5-10 min, then they are out or moved just when they are getting into a groove. The core players don't play long enough together in one formation to make a serious game of it. Club is so different.

I experience the same. The games are fast and physical and the players are having fun too. Many high schools located near big soccer clubs, where coaches select from four grade levels, can pull together a highly skilled team.
