I live in Orlando where a kid can attend Bishop Moore, Montverde, Lake Highland, Master's Academy, Windermere Prep, etc. Apparently you live in a trailer park.

Talk about a dumb dumb. If you knew anything about college athletic communications you would know that the same writers do the stories for all sports. Soccer is the only one at most schools where club leads recruitment, however, the writers are still going to lead with the high school.

If you knew anything about soccer recruitment, you would know that the Gator soccer coaches have not been to a HS game since last year's state championships and that is only because FHSAA picked up their travel expenses.

Why are you on Talking Soccer complaining about parents talking about soccer scholarships? Go over to "Talking Florida Prepaid" if you want to get into finances. It may shock you to find out many of us have invested in Florida Prepaid or a 529. We just don't talk about it on a soccer forum professor.

This is endemic of the "let the kids have fun" crowd that don't have a D1 recruit living in their house. Not hating dude but you are on a soccer forum and that means you are going to be dealing with people who are raising a kid that has the chops to play in a power conference. We don't hang out on the HS thread. We don't hang out on the academic forums. We are drawn to TS because we all have a Mia or Landy who is intent on playing at the next level. I guess you HS fans should start your own forum....oh, wait. You do have one:

          http://talking-soccer.com/TS4/forumd...sprune=30&f=66

Ouch. No posts in the last 30 days. I guess that shows the interest in your kid having fun and playing rec soccer in HS.

Thank you for stopping by. Please exit the thread and get a clue.

Stay in school children. Be smarter than us parents!
Another example of a parent trolling this site with blinders on. If you knew anything about DA or ECNL, you would know the studies that show these kids are all going to the best D1 and D2 schools in the country. Go to Topdrawer.com and look up the player rankings or club rankings. All DA and ECNL clubs. It is not a money scam. It is the realization by dedicated soccer professionals who have played at the college and pro level that the US needed to improve their development system. DA and ECNL are the result. Nothing will replace them. Nothing will come along to be the next flavor of the month because too many people at the top level of US Soccer have been a part of the development of these leagues. Anyone who complains falls into one of two camps:
              1. Those that did not make DA or ECNL
              2. Those that can't afford ECNL

If your kid was playing in the leagues, you would be on the other side of the fence. Admit it.

C'mon dad! Tryouts are over. Teams are rostered. Games are next week. And you don't think anyone is posting. Look at this thread? Plenty of interest among the parents. Just move over to the rec thread and quit coming on here with your holier than thou academic/florida prepaid attitude. Plenty of people on here going that route but we are supposed to be TALKING SOCCER. So quit criticizing us for showing up to the well to drink water.

Chops to play in a power conference? Need to change your meds guy. The only reason women soccer is as strong as it is its because it was the ONLY one in the world until just recently. In a year or two, other countries will blow right pass us. Men's? We are not even in the same league. So go ahead and get your little Mia and Landy into a "power conference". We are very good at lying to our children and telling them they are the best in the world when in reality they are the bottom in almost every category. "In a land of the blind, a one eye man is king!" best describes US Soccer in general.

You are all over the place. We are talking about college scholarships, not the World Cup. You will get no argument from me on the US vs. the World debate. But get back on topic man. The debate is whether ECNL and DA are money scams. They are not. They produce the best talent this country has and within the next 4-years, you will see national teams that are exclusive of ECNL and DA players.

I love it when you parents get on here and try and rationalize why your kid is sitting on the bench of the HS soccer team. Club kids will always be more talented, smarter on the field and be playing majority minutes. Your little rec kid might as well focus on music or drama because soccer is a game played by the most talented kids and those are the ones playing club. If that is drinking Kool Aid, then pour me another glass while I watch my kid score 3 more goals in her HS game.

Classic! Any critic of DA or ECNL is automatically the parent of a kid who did not make it. That way, you never have to face the facts. Plenty of HS teams that would destroy any local DA U18 team. You are right about affording it though. That is why we will continue producing rich, soft, spoiled, lilly white soccer players that collapse in the face of hungry Hondurans!

You also must not have been watching our National Teams play lately. DA is a failure and only exists as a money maker. You yourself are most likely one of the ones getting rich off our ignorant backs. DOC? Coach?. Yes, that is it. Who is it that you are developing by the way? All we see are foreign players that come here already formed. Who have we developed after all the millions that have been invested...BY US PARENTS!

yes, and they will lose because as long as we do not generate pro soccer big money, enough to fund pro fully funded developmental academies, this is nothing but a scam. we produce the best talent that can afford it. some do get scholarships but the rest are the ones funding it. the best soccer talent in this country is in the agriculture areas of california and texas picking the cheap food we eat. don't fool yourself man. its all about the money.

I have read every page of this thread and I'm amazed by some of the thoughts and ideas. You see I'm one of the few that you are referring to. I grew up in South Florida, played for an elite club program, played for the Fl ODP program, made the regional team and tried out but never made a national team. At 18 after a trip to Germany I had a few offers in Germany but being soccer naïve my parent insisted that I get a college education. I was offered a scholarship to the University of Conneticut and took it. When I finished school I played in the A league for a few years. Now I work and coach at a high school.

There has been some times when a club coach and myself my have not seen eye to eye. But a simple phone call has cleared up many issues. I understand that hs takes a back seat to club but ask any player if they regret playing in hs and I bet you have very few. I also understand that many parents see hs soccer as an opportunity for their student athlete to get injured or lose some skill. Yes, this may be the case at some/many schools, but the life lessons learned on the hs pitch can't be replicated at club soccer.

I make sure that I schedule some tough games and easier games so that the high level club players get time off to rest and play younger players. I also try to work with not against the club coaches (showcases and tournament).. After many years I have learned and understand players will come and go but the club is always there.

Yes, I also coached club for many years, I stopped because of all the politics. So to be honest there is perfect system. My advice is do what's best for your child. As a hs I won't be mad at you. We will just adapt and keep moving forward.
